Taking advantage of the sunny days, Mrs. Bieu's dried fish processing facility is working at full capacity. With nimble hands, she carefully removes the finished dried fish after sun-drying, beaming with a radiant smile. "Since the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake, most fishing boats in Sa Huynh have had successful catches. Because of the abundant fish, my facility has been buying up raw materials and increasing the workforce for dried fish processing. This profession depends heavily on the weather and the supply of raw materials from the boats, so the more successful the catch, the more profitable it is for us dried fish processors," Mrs. Bieu explained.
| Ms. Le Thi Bieu, residing in Thach By 1 residential area, Pho Thanh ward (Duc Pho town), develops her family's economy through the processing of dried fish. |
In her youth, after getting married, Mrs. Bieu and her husband worked many different jobs. Despite their hard work, their income was only enough to cover daily living expenses. Determined to change their lives, Mrs. Bieu explored many avenues to develop her family's economy. Recognizing her hometown's tradition of fishing, she took advantage of the abundant local seafood resources to develop a dried fish processing facility.
Every day, Ms. Bieu's facility processes over 1,000 kg of fresh seafood of various types, primarily grouper, scad, and yellowfin tuna. After cleaning, marinating, and drying, her facility yields approximately 300 kg of dried fish. Thanks to her established reputation for quality, her dried fish products are purchased by traders nationwide. On average, after deducting all expenses, Ms. Bieu earns over 150 million VND per year. Ms. Bieu shared that the dried fish processing industry is very common in coastal villages, and to develop sustainably, she must constantly strive to produce high-quality products and build customer trust. Furthermore, through her work and research, she has developed a unique flavor secret for her dried fish products, which is why they are favored by many customers. Currently, her facility does not have to worry about product sales. Thanks to the dried fish processing business, my family's life has changed for the better, and I've been able to provide my children with a better education.
According to Vo Thi Thuy Nhan, head of the Women's Association in Thach By 1 residential area, Ms. Bieu's dried fish processing facility provides regular employment for 13 local women, with an income of 150,000 to 250,000 VND per day. Ms. Bieu is a shining example for local women to learn from, striving to develop their economy and build happy families.
