The "Fire" of Literature and its mission of inspiration

After nearly 30 years of being involved in the career of "cultivating people", Ms. Nguyen Minh Hong is more and more confident in her choice. The decision to stick with Literature comes from the love that was nurtured by her teachers when she was a student at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted. Up to now, her greatest wish is to pass on her love of Literature to generations of students.

In the context of strong digital technology development and great learning pressure, Gen Z and Gen Alpha students approach books and literature differently than before. Many students, including excellent students, tend to read less or read in a "pragmatic" way, only serving short-term goals.

However, Ms. Hong believes that there are still many young people who love books. Instead of worrying, she sees positive signs from the way they spread their passion in new, dynamic and effective forms: club activities, book reviews, organizing writing competitions and taking advantage of digital technology to connect the book-loving community. She emphasizes that, no matter the era, books and love of literature always hold an irreplaceable position.

Ms. Nguyen Minh Hong has achieved many provincial-level initiatives in topics such as debate skills, communication and reading culture, which is a testament to the spirit of constant innovation and creativity from teaching practice.

In response to the core requirement of educational innovation - shifting from teaching “knowledge” to developing “capacity and character”, Ms. Nguyen Minh Hong believes that this is essentially a matter of method. Regardless of the era, focusing on developing capacity, guiding students on how to approach and acquire knowledge, and at the same time training to improve their character, will be the most effective way of education. This path helps students to be autonomous, proactive in their studies and keep the flame of passion for literature burning,” Ms. Hong shared.

The greatest happiness of a Literature teacher, according to her, is to pass on "that fire" to her students and witness them grow up every day.

The many years of Ms. Hong’s homeroom class achieving the title of Excellent is a testament to the important role of this enthusiastic teacher. She shared that being a homeroom teacher is a wonderful experience, providing the opportunity to bond more deeply with students. A homeroom teacher is not only a person who teaches knowledge but also a person who manages, guides and leads the whole group, like a “captain”. This is both a joy and an opportunity, but also a great responsibility and no small amount of pressure.

Create a positive learning environment

According to Ms. Hong, the most important secret to connecting students is to build a collective that is united, autonomous, and unified for a common goal.

According to Ms. Hong, the most important secret to connecting students is to build a collective that is united, autonomous, and unified for a common goal. There, each student feels like an “indispensable piece” of the class and becomes an active participant in building the collective. In this journey, the homeroom teacher plays the role of both a guide and a companion, supporting and adjusting when necessary.

Regarding the issue of problem students, Ms. Hong believes that the important thing is how teachers support and accompany them on the threshold of adulthood. "The first thing to do is to find out the cause and root of those 'rebellions' and 'oppositions' with an attitude of empathy, understanding, sharing and non-judgment. Each student has their own obstacles, requiring appropriate measures and companionship, absolutely not letting them feel inferior or lonely. To best help, there needs to be coordination between parents, schools, organizations, and especially classmates," Ms. Hong shared.

What Ms. Hong thinks most about when working as a homeroom teacher is to build a “happy classroom” - where students can study in a positive environment, develop their talents, correct their mistakes and feel joy and pride when coming to class. Students are given autonomy and self-management of the classroom, while the homeroom teacher plays the role of guiding, advising and supporting.

Ms. Hong is also a person with many initiatives and innovative solutions in teaching, originating from the goals of the 2018 General Education Program. These solutions help students develop comprehensively in knowledge and skills (soft skills, life skills and personal qualities). Thereby, students form language skills, critical thinking, communication skills, becoming comprehensive, dynamic, creative and flexible people in response to the demands of modern life. Her initiatives in topics such as debate skills, communication and reading culture have been recognized at the provincial level, demonstrating the spirit of constant innovation and creativity from teaching practice.

Teacher Phan Xuan Phan, Principal of Huynh Thuc Khang High School, said: “With nearly 30 years of teaching experience, Ms. Hong not only imparts knowledge but also inspires passion in many generations of students, especially in the subject of Literature. The school's greatest pride is when Ms. Hong was honored at the "Education Talent Development Fund" award, becoming one of more than 20 outstanding faces in the industry. This recognition is completely worthy of her tireless contributions. Ms. Nguyen Minh Hong is truly an example of enthusiasm, responsibility and constant creativity in the career of 'growing people'".

Through creative solutions on debate skills, communication and spreading reading culture, along with the passion for building a "happy classroom" model, Ms. Hong has proven that, in any era, the role of a teacher is still a guide, a companion and the one who lights the "fire" of passion for learning that never goes out.

The positive signal that more and more excellent students are returning to choose teaching as their career further strengthens the belief in the bright future of the industry. Ms. Nguyen Minh Hong's story is a meaningful message to all colleagues and students: Always maintain enthusiasm for the profession, nurture your passion and boldly reach for your dreams. She is a living testament to the happiness and glory of the noble career of "cultivating people".
