
Poet Nguyen Duc Mau

Poet Nguyen Duc Mau enlisted in 1966, fighting in the 312th Division in the Laotian and B battlefields. After the war, he worked as an editor, then attended the first course at the Nguyen Du School of Creative Writing, and later became Head of the Poetry Department of the Military Literature and Arts Magazine, and Vice Chairman of the Poetry Council of the Vietnam Writers Association . He retired with the rank of Colonel.
Poet Nguyen Duc Mau has published 21 volumes of poetry, epic poems, short stories, and novels.
He has been awarded many prestigious literary prizes: First prize in the weekly poetry competition of Van Nghe (1972-1973); Prize in the short story competition of Van Nghe Quan Doi (1981); Ministry of National Defense Literature Prize (1989) with the work "Hoa Do Nguon Song" (Red Flowers of the River Source ); Vietnam Writers Association War-themed Literature Prize (1994) with the work "Tu Ha Vao Thu" (From Summer to Autumn) .
He was honored with the first State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2001; the ASEAN Prize in 2001 for his work "The Forest with Many Fireflies" ; and the Ministry of National Defense Literature Prize (2004) for his poetry collection "A Flock of Yellow-Leaf Birds ".
