Reporter: Hello, musician Kieu Tan. We understand you've been composing music for a long time, with a repertoire of hundreds of songs. Why have you only released your album now?
- Composer Kieu Tan: Actually, I started composing very early (in 1968) when I was a junior high school student at Sa Dec High School, with songs that were popular among my friends and schoolmates at the time, such as: "Waiting," "Acceptance," "Singing About My Homeland," etc. By April 30, 1975, I had written several dozen songs about my homeland and country, and personal feelings about life. To this day, I still regularly produce my songs, numbering in the hundreds, but only about thirty are considered "good" and widely popular. For many years, I haven't had the opportunity or conditions to widely disseminate my songs. Thanks to the sincere help of many people and various sectors, and because I think I've reached the age of "fifty, knowing the will of heaven," what am I waiting for? I should introduce to the world the spiritual children I've nurtured for so many years...
It's safe to say that releasing four CD albums at once is something no musician has ever done before. Why didn't you release them one by one?
- Initially, I also planned to release albums one at a time, following my usual approach: songs with star singers, songs with familiar rhythms and musical styles, songs with themes... Accumulating hundreds of songs with various emotional nuances over the years gave me the opportunity to filter them. When rearranging them, I realized that they corresponded to four stages of my intellectual and life experience, and I decided to pursue this direction.
The albums are arranged according to different themes and seem to contain other intentions as well?
- The theme of Album 1 is "Eternal Spring," which consists of songs that connect the development of the nation's history with the struggle to protect and build the country. This album can also be considered the origin of a person's life - from which we are born and grow up along the long journey of our homeland...
Album 2, themed "Saigon Sunshine - Saigon Rain," features songs about love for my homeland, the place where I live and work, filled with familiar memories and several regions that have left a deep mark on my life. In this aspect of life, although there are occasional emotional ups and downs, spring still permeates most of the works...
"Love is like a basket of flowers" is the theme of album 3, a nuanced portrayal of emotions from the age of falling in love to adulthood. These are bright, tender songs about romantic love, a personal yet universal aspect of life...
And album 4, with the theme "A Century of Sorrow," features songs that express the pain of fate and love, but without being overly sentimental or surrendering to destiny. Instead, they strive to overcome challenges and look towards the future. These are also considered moments of silence in the music, quiet moments at the end of a lifetime, representing contemplation and a return to one's true self...
