Multiplying the model of "Family of Learners"

This is how many family-based scholarship committees in the province are promoting education and talent development, and building a learning society.

"Leaving home but not abandoning one's roots"

The Nguyen Duc clan in Bau Coi hamlet, Bao Quang commune (Long Khanh city) has 38 households, all descendants of Quang Tri province who chose Dong Nai as their place of residence and livelihood. Following the tradition of "leaving home but not abandoning one's ancestors," in 2003, the descendants of the Nguyen Duc clan in Bao Quang commune gathered together to contribute to building the clan's ancestral temple. They call it the "ancestral hall" to always remember their ancestral origins. Every year, according to a fixed schedule, all the descendants of the clan gather at the ancestral temple to perform rituals and pay respects to their ancestors.

From here, the family's efforts in promoting education have been boosted and yielded many positive results, contributing to the promotion of education and talent development, and building a learning society in the locality.

The clan plays a significant role in controlling and regulating the behavior of its members based on the rules established when the clan was formed. Therefore, the clan has a certain influence on each individual's perception, especially their understanding of the importance of learning. Clans dedicated to learning have truly become a source of motivation and support for educational promotion activities at the grassroots level, fostering deeper engagement and creating a ripple effect in social life.

The Nguyen Duc clan's Education Promotion Committee officially began operating in 2009, under the auspices of the Bao Quang Commune Education Promotion Association. From initially contributing just a few notebooks and some money to encourage their descendants, the work of rewarding and encouraging students has now become more systematic. Each year, families within the clan contribute nearly 20 million VND to the education promotion fund. Currently, 100% of families in the Nguyen Duc clan have achieved the title of "Learning Family"; and 70% of clan members have achieved the title of "Learning Citizen".

“Every year, the family holds a summer gathering at the ancestral temple to reward all individuals who have received certificates of merit and commendations during the school year. We also always remind family members to maintain a spirit of unity, pioneering, and exemplary conduct,” said Mr. Nguyen Duc Lam, representative of the Nguyen Duc Family's Education Promotion Board.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tuyen, Party Secretary and Head of Bau Coi Hamlet, Bao Quang Commune, Bau Coi Hamlet has three prominent education promotion committees: the Lam Thuy Village Hometown Education Promotion Committee, the Quang Nam Hometown Association Education Promotion Committee, and the Nguyen Duc Family Education Promotion Committee. Previously, the lives of the people in Bau Coi Hamlet were very difficult, but thanks to these education promotion committees, opportunities have been created for their children to study and succeed. This has contributed to improving the material, cultural, and spiritual lives of the people in the area. Those who have succeeded continue to inspire the next generation to progress.

Encourage children and grandchildren to excel in their studies.

In Doi 61 commune (Trang Bom district), there is a Truong clan consisting of 16 families and 67 members. These are people from Ha Tinh province who migrated to Dong Nai to settle in 1988. Although they do not yet have the means to build an ancestral temple like many other clans, the descendants of the Truong clan remain connected and work together to care for the education of the younger generation. Accordingly, the house of the clan leader, Truong Phat Tan, has become a gathering place for relatives of the Truong clan.

The Truong clan's Education Promotion Committee was established in 2020. Every year, 100% of the families in the clan register to build "Learning Families." The Truong clan's Education Promotion Committee regularly organizes meetings where older, exemplary members in the fields of production and livestock farming share their experiences with other clan members. These meetings also disseminate the Party's guidelines, the State's policies and laws, and local regulations to everyone. Everyone understands and grasps these guidelines, which is why the descendants of the clan do not violate the law, do not engage in social vices, and are exemplary in their lives.

To date, the family's scholarship fund has reached over 30 million VND per year. From this fund, over the years, the family has regularly organized scholarship award ceremonies for children and grandchildren with outstanding academic achievements. On average, more than 15 children and grandchildren from the family receive awards each year.

In addition to the awards, students also receive letters of commendation from their families. This serves as effective encouragement for students within the family to excel in their studies. Furthermore, the scholarship fund is also used to support students facing difficulties and to help them achieve academic success.

To maintain the regularity of the Education and Talent Promotion Movement, since 2020, the clan has posted four criteria for "Learning Families." Annually, the clan evaluates the results of implementing these criteria at the education promotion award ceremony. After graduating from university or college, the children and grandchildren report to the clan head and participate in a celebratory homecoming ceremony.

Mr. Truong Phat Tan proudly stated: "The important thing in traditional education is not only taking care of health and learning conditions, but also cultivating moral awareness, patriotism, a sense of solidarity, humility, overcoming difficulties, and helping the poor..."

With the achievements they have made, the Truong family has been recognized by the People's Committee of Doi 61 Commune as an exemplary family in learning.
