According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ky Anh town, due to the influence of the late-season cold front, heavy rain combined with thunderstorms and strong winds occurred in the town on the evening of May 10th, causing more than 80 hectares of spring rice to be damaged. It is known that for the 2025 spring crop, Ky Anh town planted 1,162 hectares of rice with main varieties such as Khang Dan, Xuan Mai, HN6, PC6, BT 09, ADI 168...

Since early this morning, many farmers in Ky Anh town have been rushing to the fields. In places where the rice plants have fallen over, people are using their hands to pull the rice stalks out of the water and "stand" them up, then tying them into bundles.

Ms. Tran Thi Hoa (Tran Phu residential area, Hung Tri ward) is busy replanting her family's 1 sao (approximately 1000 square meters) of C6 rice near her house. “If I don't replant the rice quickly, the seeds will sprout in just one or two days. This year, my family planted rice in two locations with a total area of 6 sao, with an estimated yield of over 3 quintals per sao, but the heavy rains of the past few days damaged more than 2 sao. We thought we'd have a good harvest this year, but it turned out to be…,” Ms. Hoa sighed.

Witnessing the damage to the fruits of his labor after just a few days of rain and wind, Mr. Tran Van Toan (Dong Trinh Hamlet, Ky Trinh Ward) choked up as he said: "My family planned to harvest on May 20th, but unexpectedly, this natural disaster struck. This year, I and other villagers here predicted a very high rice yield. However, due to heavy rain and thunderstorms, all 3 acres of my rice crop were flattened. The forecast predicts continued rain in the coming days, so saving the rice is really difficult..."

Heavy rain and strong winds in the early morning of May 11th caused nearly 7 hectares of rice fields belonging to Mr. Duong Cong Kieu's family (Dong Thanh Hamlet, Dong Mon Ward, Ha Tinh City), which were about to be harvested, to be flattened. Seeing his rice fields, the result of so much hard work, ruined overnight, Mr. Kieu couldn't help but feel heartbroken.

Mr. Kieu had to use large pumps day and night to quickly drain the water from the rice fields in order to "recover as much as possible".

Dong Mon Ward (Ha Tinh City) had to open 2/3 of the sluice gates in the area to drain water as quickly as possible for the farmers.

Reportedly, in Ha Tinh City, more than 150 hectares of rice fields were flattened due to heavy rain and strong winds, mainly those in the milky to waxy ripening stages.

Farmers in Trung Phu village, Thach Thang commune (Ha Tinh city) quickly went to the fields to clear the waterways and minimize damage.

According to information from the Ha Tinh Department of Agriculture and Environment, the prolonged heavy rains and strong winds in recent days have caused serious damage to agricultural production in the area, especially rice crops, with over 1,780 hectares flattened. Of particular concern is that most of the affected rice fields are in a crucial stage of development, from milky stage to waxy stage. The lodging of rice at this time poses a risk of reduced yield, affecting the quality of the final crop and creating significant difficulties for harvesting.
To minimize yield losses, the People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities need to direct and urge farmers to closely monitor weather developments to proactively take timely response measures. Focus on clearing waterways to minimize localized flooding and avoid affecting the growth and development of crops. For areas where rice has been flattened, guide farmers to prop up the plants and tie 4-5 clumps of rice together so that the rice can continue to accumulate dry matter in the grains, reducing the rate of damaged or germinated rice.
