The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) announced on January 7th that it has decided to postpone the launch of the H3 rocket, scheduled for February 1st, as it is still investigating the cause of a failed launch last month.
According to JAXA, the launch date for the ninth H3 rocket, carrying a satellite belonging to Japan's Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS), has not yet been determined.
The agency is focusing all its resources and efforts on clarifying the cause of the previous H3 rocket launch failure.
Japan aims to build a seven-satellite navigation system to provide highly accurate positioning services for critical applications such as smartphones and vehicle navigation, while reducing its reliance on satellites from other countries.
Currently, five satellites of this system have been launched into orbit.
When completed, QZSS is expected to provide coverage across almost all of Japan, including densely populated urban areas and mountainous regions where satellite signals are often weak due to obstruction.
