The Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026 will likely be a special one for the peach blossom growers of Nhat Tan. Each branch of blossoms brought to the streets today not only carries the colors of spring but also embodies the enduring resilience of farmers who have just overcome a year of many challenges. In the latter half of 2025, two consecutive major storms swept through, leaving behind days of heavy rain and flooding, submerging many peach trees in water. In the gardens still bearing the marks of the storms and floods, the gnarled tree trunks seemed exhausted and unlikely to revive. But as soon as the weather turned slightly cool, the peach buds quietly sprouted, brimming with life.

Behind the perfectly blooming peach blossoms are the sleepless nights of flower growers, tirelessly clinging to their trees and saving their orchards. "Peach blossoms are very difficult to please. Both intense sun and heavy rain can ruin the entire crop. Hanoi's weather is unpredictable, and peach growers are always anxious about every single bud. My family depends on these peach trees all year round, so having flowers to sell at the market is like having a successful Tet celebration," shared Ms. Hoang Thu Huong, the owner of a peach orchard in Nhat Tan.
Growing peach blossoms is a story that relies on both the will of nature and the trust of human hands. To have beautiful peach blossom branches, besides favorable weather, experience and care techniques play a decisive role. "This year Tet is later, and if we don't adjust in time, the peach blossoms may bloom early. Therefore, the pruning and care process must be more meticulous," said Le Ngoc Dung, a flower vendor at Quang An flower market.
Each peach blossom season is a long journey of patience. Peach growers closely monitor weather changes, nurture each bud, calculate the timing for leaf removal, and adjust irrigation and fertilization using experience accumulated over many years in the profession. Not only do they ensure the flowers bloom in time for Tet (Lunar New Year), but they also have to adapt to changing tastes among flower enthusiasts. While previously, large, elaborately shaped peach trees were preferred, the trend now leans towards smaller branches with compact canopies and dense buds, harmonizing with modern living spaces. This proactive innovation in shaping, caring for, and marketing their products shows that the peach growers of Nhat Tan not only persevere in preserving their craft but also know how to adapt, allowing the village to continue breathing life into contemporary Tet celebrations.
Nhat Tan peach blossoms are not simply a Tet flower product, but the culmination of the soil of the Red River floodplain, cultivation techniques, and the dedication of many generations of farmers. The fact that the local peach blossom products have been awarded a 4-star OCOP rating, along with activities honoring the traditional craft village, has contributed to enhancing the value of the Nhat Tan peach blossom brand. The appearance of Nhat Tan peach blossoms on the streets of Hanoi every Tet is an affirmation that, despite all the changes, Tet still comes and the flowers still bloom; bringing with it joy, hope, and pride in a traditional craft village that has endured through time.
