Nguyen Thi Hong Thao, a 12th-grade student at Nguyen Du Specialized High School (Dak Lak), said she has been accepted into several universities through early admissions, including the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, and the University of Law - Hue University.
Hong Thao took the high school graduation exam with the sole purpose of passing, whether her score was high or low wasn't that important. This helped to alleviate some of the pressure.
However, I didn't get accepted into my preferred major, History Education, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education through the early admissions process. Therefore, I focused on the high school graduation exam and achieved 28 points in the C00 subject group (Literature 8.5 points; History 9.75 points and Geography 9.75 points).
With this score, Hong Thao estimates she has a chance of getting into her first-choice university if the cutoff scores this year remain stable or increase slightly.
"Last year, my first choice was 26.85 for the C00 subject group. But I'm worried that the cutoff score will increase because the score range for the C00 subject group this year is slightly higher than last year," she said.
The female student added that with that score, she was also interested in studying Law at several universities and felt quite comfortable because she had many options.
Sharing the same sentiment, Tran Gia Khanh, a 12th-grade student from Thang Long Specialized High School (Lam Dong), shared that she had been accepted into many universities through early admissions methods, such as the Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics ; the University of Social Sciences and Humanities; and the University of Economics and Law of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City... among which her first choice was the Ho Chi Minh City University of Law.
"I didn't feel much pressure taking the 2024 high school graduation exam. I only set a goal of getting 10 points in History because it's my most passionate subject, and I achieved that," the male student said.

In the 2024 high school graduation exam, Dinh Thi Bich Ngoc, a 12th-grade student from Luong Van Tuy Specialized High School (Ninh Binh), achieved a total score of 57.85 points across six subjects and 29.75 points in the C00 group. She has also been admitted through early admission to her dream major, English Language Teaching, at the University of Foreign Languages - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Bich Ngoc won first prize in the provincial-level English competition for gifted students and obtained an IELTS certificate with a score of 8.5 in 11th grade.
She shared that, even though she had already been accepted into university, she wanted to perform to the best of her ability when entering the high school graduation exam. Her recent score exceeded her expectations, and she was extremely surprised.
This year, many universities have announced their admission scores based on early admission methods. Candidates only need to ensure they meet the high school graduation requirements and register their admission preferences on the Ministry of Education and Training's online admissions system between July 18th and 5 PM on July 30th.
