In the early days of the new spring, while the festive atmosphere still lingers in every home, the fields are bustling with the sounds of plows and the laughter of farmers busily planting the 2025 spring rice crop. A new production season begins under favorable weather conditions, with a cheerful spirit after a successful winter harvest promising a bountiful year.
Farmers in Quynh Nguyen commune (Quynh Phu district) are preparing the land for planting spring rice.
With the goal of planting over 74,000 hectares of spring rice, striving for a yield of over 70 quintals/hectare, and an expected production of more than 510,000 tons, many farmers in the province went to the fields to prepare for the new production season from the morning of the 4th day of the first lunar month. The image of bustling fields, plows, and rice transplanters working in harmony shows the proactive readiness of the farmers from the very beginning of the year.
In Dong Hung district, the atmosphere of labor is more vibrant than ever. From early morning, people have been out in the fields, their hands busily preparing the land and planting rice.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoan, from Cao Mo Dong village, Phong Duong Tien commune, shared: "My family planted 8 sao (approximately 0.8 hectares) of TBR225 and Huong Com rice varieties. This year, the weather is favorable, not too cold, so my family took advantage of the opportunity to go to the fields early to ensure timely planting. We hope that this spring rice crop will be good, with a bountiful harvest and stable prices so that everyone can have a prosperous year."
Not only in Phong Duong Tien commune, but also in many other localities in the district, farmers are urgently getting to work. Plows and harrows are operating at full capacity, helping to improve the land and create a solid foundation for rice plants to grow and develop.
In Kien Xuong town, the atmosphere of early-year production is equally bustling. Farmers are busy tending to seedlings and preparing the land for planting.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nam, Secretary of the Hung Long Ward Party Committee, said: This spring, the entire ward planted over 80 acres with rice varieties TBR225, T10, and Bac Thom No. 7. Thanks to the application of mechanization in production, planting is faster and more convenient. Currently, the ward has 5 rice transplanters, helping to free up labor for farmers. It is expected that the transplanters will officially start working in the fields from February 7th, and planting will be completed before February 15th. Introducing machinery into production not only increases labor productivity but also ensures uniformity in planting, thereby helping rice plants grow better, reducing pests and diseases, and improving rice grain quality.
Throughout the fields of Quynh Phu district, a bustling atmosphere of labor can be seen everywhere. The entire district has planted nearly 10,900 hectares of spring rice with the goal of achieving an average yield of 71.77 quintals/hectare. This year's rice variety structure has shifted in a positive direction, with high-quality rice varieties accounting for 35% of the planted area.
In Quynh Nguyen commune, after harvesting winter crops, farmers quickly begin preparing the land and caring for seedlings to ensure the spring rice crop is planted within the correct timeframe.
Mr. Hoang Dinh Tam, Director of Quynh Nguyen Agricultural Service Cooperative, said: "Right after the Tet holiday, farmers simultaneously went to the fields, starting the spring rice crop production with a sense of urgency and high determination. The whole commune strives to complete the planting of over 300 hectares of spring rice before February 15th. Throughout the year, the cooperative proactively disseminated information and guided farmers to plant according to the correct schedule, supplied seeds and fertilizers, and provided technical support. Farmers have taken advantage of favorable weather conditions to accelerate the planting process."
In the fields, the atmosphere is bustling with activity. Plows and harrows are working continuously, speeding up the land preparation process. Many families proactively sowed rice seedlings before Tet (Lunar New Year) to be ready for transplanting as soon as the weather warms up.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hai, from Phuong Qua Nam village, Quynh Nguyen commune, said: "This year we are planting more high-quality rice varieties that are suitable for the local farming conditions. We hope that with thorough preparation and support from agricultural policies and mechanisms, this spring crop will be successful."
Not only in Dong Hung, Kien Xuong, or Quynh Phu, but across the fields of Thai Binh province, farmers are actively working in the fields. Cooperatives have planned to provide technical guidance, supply seeds and fertilizers, and advise on planting schedules suitable for each locality. In addition, the application of scientific and technological advancements in production is being promoted. Many localities have encouraged farmers to adopt the method of planting in sparse rows to save seeds, create conditions for healthy rice growth, and reduce pests and diseases. Along with this, support programs for seeds, fertilizers, and mechanization are contributing to reducing costs and improving production efficiency for farmers.
One of the key factors facilitating early planting for farmers is the very favorable weather at the beginning of this year. The weather has been warm, without prolonged periods of severe cold or frost, and the light rain has provided sufficient moisture to soften the soil, making it ideal for land preparation and sowing. This is perfect for healthy seedling growth, ready for transplanting in early February. Given these favorable conditions, the agricultural sector has advised farmers to strictly adhere to the planting schedule, select high-quality rice varieties, and implement proper crop care measures from the start of the season to ensure the highest possible yield. In addition, agricultural service cooperatives have proactively managed water resources and guided farmers on fertilization techniques and pest control, helping rice plants develop healthily from the very first days of planting.
Thorough preparation and enthusiastic work ethic from farmers since the beginning of the year are opening up prospects for a successful spring crop. With the application of scientific and technological advancements, expanded mechanization, and the selection of high-quality rice varieties, the province expects to continue achieving high yields in 2025, contributing to improved income and living standards for farmers.
