Houses steeped in the bond between soldiers and civilians.

A hillside at the edge of Mo Roi village (Hamlet 6, Tra Tap commune) is covered in the red color of freshly tilled soil. Last month, ten Ca Dong ethnic minority households came here to choose land; now houses have sprung up, ready to welcome Tet.

Humanitarian campaign

On December 9, 2025, the Tra Tap commune government commenced a project to build houses for people affected by storms and floods, responding to the swift spirit of the "Quang Trung Campaign".

Every morning, while the mist still clung to the hillside, Ms. Ho Thi Huong quietly went out to look at the muddy, uneven land. Having left the village, with her children and grandchildren working far away, she and her husband, along with her elderly mother, lived temporarily in a makeshift hut, struggling with all sorts of difficulties. The chaotic construction site added to their anxieties. In Tra Tap, building one house was difficult enough; building ten at once was even more challenging. The hardest part was finding suitable land. If the mountain had already collapsed, or even just posed a risk of collapse, the villagers had to leave.

Ms. Huong and her husband, along with several other households, received assistance in dismantling their houses and relocating to safety. The commune held a meeting with the villagers to agree on the land, then proceeded with leveling and filling. In just one week, the lush cinnamon-covered slopes of Mo Roi hill took shape as a residential area, with evenly divided plots of land for each household. Then the soldiers arrived in the village; the sounds of concrete mixers and hammers echoed throughout the area, and the campaign in Tra Tap began from there. Ms. Huong shared: "Now I'm getting old, and there are no young men in the house, so even if I wanted to help, I couldn't. Despite the harsh weather conditions, the soldiers didn't shy away from difficulties, speeding up the work so that the villagers could have new houses before Tet."

As soon as the walls were built and the rafters were in place, Mr. Tran Dinh Khoi quickly helped the soldiers with the roofing. During the campaign, he and his wife were present at the construction site. Once the main house was completed, he asked the local shock troops to bring the pillars, rafters, and some planks salvaged from the old house to use as kitchen rafters. Everyone pitched in, and everything went quickly. “The soldiers built the house, the local officials, the teachers, and the youth union members helped us from dismantling the old house, choosing the land, carrying bricks, and then roofing, even cooking and boiling water. It was during a natural disaster that I realized how precious the kindness of the soldiers and everyone in the commune is,” Mr. Khoi shared.

Strengthening the bond between the military and the people.

Through rain and sunshine, the soldiers' uniforms were a constant sight from early morning until the night mist descended. Among the nearly thirty officers and soldiers of the Da Nang City Military Command participating in this support effort, Corporal Ríah Plát, a soldier from the 72nd Infantry Battalion (885th Infantry Regiment), was always on duty transporting materials. Mud clung to their boots, the road into the residential area was muddy after each rain, and supplies had to be passed from hand to hand, carried on foot one load at a time. The rain was bone-chillingly cold, yet every meter of wall erected was soaked with sweat.

“The solidarity and sharing of the local people is a great source of encouragement for our officers and soldiers. Witnessing many households without stable housing, the soldiers encouraged each other to work quickly and early so that the people could have a house in time for family reunions and a warm Tet celebration,” Ríah Plát shared.

Major Nguyen Quan Truong, Deputy Battalion Commander of the 72nd Infantry Battalion, reported that during nearly a month of being stationed in Tra Tap, the Party committee, government, and local people provided a great deal of support and assistance to the unit. To date, the officers and soldiers of the Regiment have successfully completed the "Quang Trung Campaign" mission.

"We hope that after receiving these new houses, built by the soldiers and other forces, the people of Mo Roi village will have a stable life, focus on their work, develop their economy , and most importantly, avoid the risks of natural disasters in the coming years," said Major Nguyen Quan Truong.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Tap commune, Le Trung Thuc, affirmed that without the timely support and assistance of the military forces, the construction progress of ten houses in Mo Roi hamlet would have been difficult to meet the requirements. In reality, the weather conditions in the highlands are complex, with more rain than sunshine, while local human resources are limited… All of these are significant obstacles for the local government, especially in the context of the "Quang Trung Campaign" which demanded urgency and speed.

According to Mr. Le Trung Thuc, the synchronized involvement of the entire political system, the unity and cooperation of the local people, and especially the dedicated and tireless support of the military forces were decisive factors in resolving the biggest bottlenecks in the implementation process. “The support of the soldiers is invaluable to the locality. Throughout the implementation process, the soldiers and the people have always been closely connected, coordinating closely, working together, and sharing difficulties, creating a warm and united atmosphere of military-civilian solidarity,” the Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Tap commune emphasized.
