With a serious work ethic, a deep concern for each topic, and meticulous attention to detail in every piece, generations of journalists in Quang Ninh have proudly won many high awards at national journalism festivals and competitions. Through these achievements, they have not only affirmed their position, created a ripple effect, and left a lasting impression, but most importantly, they have fully reflected and conveyed the thoughts and aspirations of the people.
Constantly innovating thinking
Throughout its development, Quang Ninh's vibrant practices, groundbreaking thinking, and innovative approaches have provided a rich, diverse, and captivating source of material for generations of journalists. Even during difficult times with poor and outdated infrastructure, driven by passion, love for the profession, and a deep concern for their work, journalists tirelessly explored and researched various aspects of the subject matter. Beyond well-deserved awards, each journalist of that era had articles that became synonymous with their name. Some award-winning articles even changed the perceptions and policies of departments, agencies, and localities.
Journalist Vu Dieu, former Head of the Economic Department of Quang Ninh Newspaper, former resident correspondent of Nhan Dan Newspaper in Quang Ninh, and winner of the First Prize in the 1992 National Journalism Awards, recalled: "In 1992, I was the Head of the Economic Department of Quang Ninh Newspaper, so I regularly followed the industrial, agricultural, and service sectors. Journalists must be courageous, speaking the truth and the falsehood with a clear conscience. Therefore, the coal screening plant had existed right in the heart of Hon Gai town (formerly) for quite a long time, but at that time it not only caused severe environmental pollution but also created further difficulties for the lives of mine workers. However, the coal industry had a very large investment plan to rebuild the plant at the old location, and the plan had been approved by the competent authorities. A town submerged in coal pollution was not far off." After spending time researching, working with relevant units, and conducting extensive studies, half of page 3 of the September 8, 1992 issue published an article titled "Building a New Coal Sorting Plant in Hong Gai - Questions That Need Answers." With four questions – "Is there coal to sort? Is there money to pay? Two Australian sorters – one question: why? What will the living environment be like?" – the article raised two issues: reforming thinking and protecting the environment. At that time, raising such issues was quite bold, so the article caused a stir in public opinion. Following the article, the Provincial People's Council discussed the matter at its session and passed a resolution recommending that the Government reconsider the investment in the sorting plant and relocate the construction outside the town. The relocation of the sorting plant was reported to the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister concluded that the investment should be reviewed and the construction of the sorting plant should be moved elsewhere.
Journalist Nguyen Tien Manh, former Deputy Director of Quang Ninh Radio and Television Station, former Editor-in-Chief of Quang Ninh Newspaper, and three-time Gold Award winner at the National Television Festival in 2002, 2004, and 2005, shared: "Each of my award-winning reports tells a different story, but all reflect the efforts of the Party committees, the government from the province to the localities, and the entire political system in improving the lives of the people. If the report 'Searching for the Second Half of the Proverb' showcased the province's practical, decisive, and effective solutions to help mountainous communes escape poverty, then the report 'Vitality from a Resolution' tells the story of a resolution from the Party Committee of Binh Khe commune, Dong Trieu district (now Binh Khe ward, Dong Trieu city) that helped local people identify, utilize, and develop the advantages of fruit tree cultivation to boost the economy, replicating it in many other communes in the district and becoming a model for many places to learn from." The documentary "One Year to Fulfill a Century-Old Dream" acknowledges the efforts of the province, philanthropists, and the political system in working together to eliminate temporary housing for poor households in the area. Thanks to these efforts, in just one year, Quang Ninh has essentially eliminated temporary housing, turning the century-old dream of its people for solid, stable homes into reality.
Overcoming all difficulties, closely following the vibrant realities of life, readily pointing out mistakes in the hope that people will correct them, pointing out what is right in the hope that people will follow it, sowing seeds of goodness in society, generations of veteran journalists have not only reaped many well-deserved awards, but also brought many gold medals to the mining region, such as: the report "Forms of Contracting in Quang Ninh Fishery Cooperatives" by author Tran Manh Hung, which won the A prize at the Voice of Vietnam Radio in 1982; the documentary film "The War Without Gunfire" by the group of authors Mai Phuong and Tung Bac, which won the Gold prize at the National Television Festival in 1990; the report "Quang Ninh, a Cry for Help from the Mangrove Forests" by author Do Bich, which won the Gold prize at the National Radio and Television Festival in 2005; and the educational film "Raising Clams - An Advantage of the Sea and Islands" by author Huy Ty, which won the Gold prize at the National Television Festival. The documentary "Stories of Dairy Farmers Getting Rich" by authors Dinh Nhien, Nguyen Hung, Huong Giang, and Hong Thang won the Gold Award at the 2010 National Television Festival; the documentary "Building New Rural Areas - Overcoming Difficulties for Criterion No. 10" by authors Trong Tue and Hoang Nam won the Gold Award at the 2013 National Television Festival; the documentary "A Year of Convergence, a Thousand-Year Dream" by authors Thu Giang, Thu Phuong, Nguyen Soai, and Hoang Nam won the Gold Award at the 2013 National Television Festival; the documentary "Warm Fire in the Rain" by authors Thu Giang, Mai Chi, and Duc Phong won the Gold Award at the 2015 National Television Festival...
Following in the footsteps of our forefathers
Following the example of their predecessors – seasoned journalists – the younger generation of journalists in Quang Ninh today continues to uphold the tradition, constantly affirming their capabilities and becoming dynamic, creative, and highly skilled professionals. Along with diligently researching topics, the team of journalists, reporters, and editors dedicate their love, passion, and commitment to creating high-quality works that are well-received by the public, bringing gold medals to the mining region. The process of creating these works is a long and arduous journey. Therefore, these awards not only recognize the efforts of the journalistic team but also reaffirm their pioneering role on the ideological and cultural front of the Party, contributing to the overall development of the province.
Reporter Huu Khanh, from the Radio Editorial Department of the Provincial Media Center, who won the Gold Award at the 2024 National Radio Festival with his live radio program "When Young People Sing Revolutionary Songs," shared: "For many years, the Provincial Media Center has been producing live radio programs that attract public interaction. When participating in the National Radio Festival, we hoped not only to share our love for music with traditional revolutionary songs, but also to educate the younger generation about love for their homeland and country with the theme 'When Young People Love Revolutionary Songs.' To attract listeners, we chose to conduct a live broadcast with interaction between the host and guests in the studio with the audience, instead of the traditional method of gathering materials, writing articles, and editing in the studio. The public could not only follow the program on the radio but also easily watch it live on livestream on our fanpage."
"Because the entire program is filmed live on location, the team, from the director, presenter, guests, assistants, and technical staff, have to put in a lot of effort from scriptwriting and planning to execution. To ensure the best quality, the presenter is directly involved in script development so they can best understand their work and be able to flexibly respond to real-life situations," reporter Huu Khanh added.
Recently, at the 42nd National Television Festival, the Quang Ninh Provincial Media Center proudly won 5 awards. Among them, the Center won a gold medal in the Music category for the work by the team of authors Bich Hanh, The Anh, Phuong Dung, Viet Anh, Tuan Hung, and Xuan Hoang. "My hometown."
Journalist Bich Hanh, Deputy Head of the Arts, Sports and Entertainment Department of the Provincial Media Center, said: "The work 'My Homeland' is a compilation of famous songs about Quang Ninh such as: The Coal Miner, The Night-Singing Stars, Miner's Love Song, My Homeland, Early Morning Ha Long, Ha Long Festival Night… with a duration of 45 minutes. The work is a story told." Through melodies, artistic sounds, and the vibrant colors of life, with distinctive images and hues conveyed through the lyrics of People's Artists, Meritorious Artists, and rising stars—all sons and daughters of Quang Ninh province. To create this work, from the very beginning, we planned, scripted, and assigned specific tasks to each individual. Based on that, the team spent five months filming from coal mines to border areas, islands, districts, towns, cities, and cultural heritage sites... to showcase the beauty of nature, culture, and people in these regions of Quang Ninh. Quang Ninh. Based on that, we meticulously selected and edited each melody and song in the program to create unique, novel, and creative footage that is distinctive and captivating, while clearly reflecting the glorious past and the spirit of unity, "Discipline - Solidarity," building a more beautiful and prosperous Quang Ninh, firmly entering the new era of the nation. Thanks to this, the work won the Gold Award at the 42nd National Television Festival. That is a joy, honor, and pride for me and the team of authors.
Building upon the revolutionary journalistic tradition and the fervent spirit of the Coal Mining Newspaper, generations of journalists in Quang Ninh have increasingly affirmed their capabilities, their lofty aspirations, their boundless creativity, and their burning love and passion for the profession. Each award, each medal, each achievement is a great recognition, motivating them to be even more dedicated to their work. They will continue to strive tirelessly, maintaining "sharp eyes, incisive pens, and pure hearts" to truthfully reflect the issues of social life, worthy of the great responsibility entrusted to them by the Party and the people, contributing to the development of Vietnam's revolutionary journalism and the development of the province and the country.
