Back to the 90s
Located on Road 29, Phuoc Long A Urban Area (Nha Trang City), the name of the shop - 1975 Coffee Shop evokes a nostalgic atmosphere. The first impression that attracts us is the large green trees surrounding, creating a feeling of closeness to nature. Inside the shop, many objects are arranged and displayed with a strong imprint of the 90s of the last century. From old brown tables and chairs, a box TV, a music player, a rotary phone to a bicycle with a broken chain, a Rang Dong thermos, and books that have faded with time... creating a feeling that is both familiar and new.
Customers coming to 1975 Coffee Shop, in addition to enjoying coffee, also take the time to read their favorite books. |
Suddenly, I felt the noisy, bustling life of a tourist city slow down. Walking around the shop, I was delighted to see the Thong Nhat bicycle hanging on the wall. Looking at the bicycle, memories of school days, Tet holidays with friends on Phoenix and Thong Nhat bicycles, roaming all over the alleys, picking up firecrackers, going to each child's house to receive lucky money... like a slow-motion film bringing me back to my childhood.
Sitting and sipping a cup of coffee, reading each page of a book, Ms. Kim Hue (Phuoc Long ward, Nha Trang city) shared: "I often visit the shop, not only because I am addicted to the fragrant pure roasted ground coffee brewed through a filter, but also because I love the quiet space here, every item on display reminds me of my childhood."

Fond of collecting antiques and nostalgic, Mr. Lai Van Tu - owner of 1975 Coffee Shop said that as soon as he had the idea of opening the shop, the shop's distinctive old style had formed in his mind. When the shop was formed, he took the trouble to go everywhere to find items from the 90s to bring back to decorate the shop. From the window frames with the color of time to the smallest items such as jackfruit seed tea cups, all were collected by him. "During my business trips out of the province, I always tried to find and buy old items, sometimes a sewing machine, a music player, a water bottle, a black and white TV, even a flower vase... I want to bring to customers the complete feeling of a familiar, warm atmosphere like returning to an old home when coming to the shop", Mr. Tu shared.
Sip coffee in a 100 year old house
In contrast to the bustling atmosphere of Dam Market, Dam Cafe (Xuong Huan Street, Nha Trang) brings a simple, rustic feeling. Dam Cafe is actually a small house, although it is 100 years old, the structure of the house is still preserved in the ancient three-room architecture of Vietnam. Coming here, many people see somewhere the shadow of their old house through the wooden tables and chairs stained with time; teacups, cups, and plates made of terracotta; and a TV with an old antenna. The old objects are arranged in a delicate way, clearly depicting an old time. "Enjoying coffee in a 100-year-old house always gives me a very unique feeling that cannot be found anywhere else," said Mr. Le Thanh - a regular customer of the shop.

Out there, people and vehicles are still rushing back and forth, busy with life. But when you need a small corner of your favorite place to be quiet, to remember the past, then go to those nostalgic coffee shops. Stepping into the shop, time seems to be forgotten, stopped by the yellow lights, by the songs, the lyrics playing from the old cassette player...
