According to data from market research firm Counterpoint Research, Apple has regained the leading position in the Chinese smartphone market.
Specifically, in the fourth quarter of 2025, Apple's market share reached 21.8%, meaning that one in five smartphones sold in China was an iPhone. Sales during the same period increased by 28% compared to the same period last year, despite the widespread global shortage of memory chips.
According to analyst Ivan Lam from Counterpoint Research, the resounding success of the iPhone 17 is not a one-day phenomenon. It is the result of a "super-upgrade cycle" that was prepared for many years in advance.
Specifically, Apple has sown the first "seeds" in the cycle of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 – the time when sales in China peak.
At that time, Huawei, with its obvious limitations, inadvertently left a huge "gap" in the high-end smartphone segment.
"This indirectly makes users who bought devices during the pandemic crave an upgrade. For them, comparing specifications with Android devices is just theoretical. In reality, they almost never seriously consider leaving the Apple ecosystem," Ivan Lam observed.
While Android manufacturers are busy promoting artificial intelligence (AI) but haven't delivered a tangible experience, Apple has chosen a more practical approach.
"The iPhone 17 feels like a real leap forward in class and durability, rather than just minor upgrades in specifications," said Yang Wang, an expert from Counterpoint Research .
Furthermore, analysts also suggest that Apple's success is due to the appeal of the iPhone 17 and its strategy of increasing supply. Even the iPhone 17 Pro received positive feedback thanks to its new camera design, and the lowest-priced version had double the storage.
