Joy on a new path

QTO - After 23 years of service in the army, Mr. Hoang Tho Man (46 years old) requested early retirement and returned to live in his hometown in Hamlet 8, Nam Cua Viet Commune. Witnessing the dusty, muddy dirt road in his hamlet causing many difficulties for the people, he was deeply concerned. With the prestige and responsibility of a soldier of Uncle Ho, he took the initiative to mobilize resources to build a spacious concrete road for the people, realizing the dream of many generations of local residents.

In the final days of the year, the residents of Trong hamlet, village 8, Nam Cua Viet commune, were overjoyed to be able to stroll along the wide concrete road, which is now more than 70% complete. The road, 320 meters long, 3 meters wide, and 18 centimeters thick, connects the national defense road to the temple area, cemetery, and the production forest plantation area of the Trong hamlet residents. The total cost of constructing this practical community road is approximately 350 million VND.

Excited to inspect the road being paved with red earth on both sides, Mr. Tran Binh Trang, Head of Trong Hamlet, and Mr. Hoang Tho Man both expressed great satisfaction that the project, which generations of local people have long awaited, is about to be completed. Mr. Trang explained that this road is very important to the people in the hamlet and village because it is the route to the cemetery for burying the deceased, visiting and offering incense to ancestors during holidays and Tet, and serving the transportation of construction materials for tombs as well as for labor and production activities of the people…

“Previously, this was a dirt road. In the dry season, the sand was scorching hot, and in the rainy season, it was muddy, making it extremely difficult for people to transport hearses, materials, or even move around. Everyone wished for a proper road, but due to a lack of funding, it hasn't been built for decades. Many elderly people were deeply concerned about this, but they passed away without ever seeing the new road. That is a constant worry in our hearts,” Mr. Trang explained.

Understanding the concerns of the people, and with the prestige and responsibility of a soldier, Mr. Man discussed and agreed with the village's management board and directly took the initiative to raise funds for the road construction. After just over a month of appealing and soliciting donations from people from his hometown working far away, philanthropists, businesses, and local residents, the fundraising committee received hundreds of millions of dong, essentially enough to fund the road construction.

"I had thought about raising funds for road construction many years ago. But it was only after I retired from my job that I had the time to dedicate myself wholeheartedly to it. This has also been a long-held wish of all the people in the hamlet and village," Mr. Man shared.

As soon as funding was available, the village assisted in land clearance, and the villagers joined forces, contributing labor and coordinating with the construction team to build the road. Thanks to the unity and cooperation of everyone, the concrete road that the people had longed for was completed in just 5 days. "Currently, the villagers are continuing to work together to fill in the red soil on both sides of the road. In the future, we will install an additional system of 6 streetlights along this road to serve people traveling at night," Mr. Man said.

The completed road has brought great joy to the people of Trong hamlet in particular, and village 8 in general. From now on, visiting, building tombs, and engaging in agricultural production will no longer be as difficult as before. Pushing a wheelbarrow loaded with harvested acacia wood along the concrete road to the main collection point, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang couldn't hide her joy, saying: “Now the road is so smooth, everyone is happy. Before, harvesting acacia wood required us to push wheelbarrows through muddy, hot sand, which was extremely difficult and time-consuming. Thanks to the hamlet's management board and Mr. Man's efforts, we now have this concrete road. This Tet, we can ride our motorbikes to the tombs to light incense and visit them much more conveniently.”

Mr. Le Van Chuy, Head of the Front Committee of Hamlet 8, said that thanks to the solidarity of the villagers, the support of benevolent individuals, and the dedication of Mr. Hoang Tho Man, the locality was able to mobilize funds to build a spacious and clean road in a short time. According to Mr. Chuy, the completed road is a testament to the spirit of solidarity, closeness, and unity of the people in the movement to build and beautify the new rural areas, contributing to promoting the development of the hamlet.

Mr. Man shared that after completing this road, he plans to establish a scholarship fund to help diligent students in Hamlet 8. “In recent years, the children in the hamlet have shown a high level of academic achievement, with an average of 8-12 students passing entrance exams to universities nationwide each year. The hamlet currently has 215 households, but more than 100 of their children are officers serving in the military and police. Therefore, I hope to establish a village-wide scholarship fund, calling on organizations and individuals with generous hearts to contribute and support these students in their university studies,” Mr. Man added.
