According to China Central Television (CCTV), on March 13, an explosion suspected to be caused by gas rocked a town in Hebei province, northern China, damaging several buildings and causing some casualties.
The explosion occurred at 8 a.m. local time at a ground-floor restaurant in an old residential area of a village in Tam Ha County, less than 50 kilometers east of Beijing. Those injured were taken to hospital. Their condition is currently unknown.
The massive explosion caused a fierce fire, sending plumes of smoke and debris flying across the busy nearby street during the morning rush hour. A video on social media showed a building that appeared to have completely collapsed and several cars engulfed in flames.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the incident.
