Efforts to stay calm in cyberspace

Not hesitating to look straight at prejudices or generational gaps, many young people choose to create and enjoy joy in all circumstances, to forge their own courage on their journey to adulthood.

Look at the problem from a different perspective.

HN's account (443,000 followers and 3.1 million likes) has become a trending name and has attracted the attention of social media users in recent days. Each of HN's live streams has over 20,000 simultaneous viewers and thousands of comments. What makes HN stand out is her affiliate marketing, introducing products such as fermented pork sausage (nem chua), sun protection masks, microphones, and clothing. However, many young viewers, instead of commenting on the products, tease her or even ask tricky questions like whether she delivers to heaven or the sea; or when HN introduced the fermented pork sausage, viewers ordered... two bowls of pork offal porridge.

In response to comments that were three parts witty and seven parts sarcastic, HN gently answered each question, even creating separate videos to meticulously address viewers' inquiries. This approach helped HN's account gain over 300,000 followers in less than a week of affiliate marketing, and the number of orders increased from a few to nearly 200 per day.

HN's story is seen as a breath of fresh air in a turbulent livestreaming environment filled with accusations, insults, and even contempt. Despite the mockery of some viewers, HN's friendly attitude has attracted the attention of many young people, who, even without buying anything, still send gifts and roses (which can be converted into money) during live sessions.

Ms. Dang Thi Thuy Trang (24 years old, sales employee, residing in Cho Lon Ward, Ho Chi Minh City - a follower of the HN account) shared: “In the first few days, she live-streamed for two hours straight, but no one placed an order. They were all teasing, even making rude comments, accusing her of faking innocence and urging viewers to report her account. But she maintained a calm demeanor, avoiding arguments, which is very rare on social media these days. Now, even with more support, she still maintains her gentle attitude, thanking each customer who placed an order. If anyone asks tricky or teasing questions, she calmly answers to the best of her ability. I think this is a positive perspective to learn from.”

Having followed HN's account since the beginning, Hoang Ngoc Khanh Vy (30 years old, a communications employee residing in An Nhon ward) expressed: "Of course, the teasing comments about HN from some young people are offensive. But looking at it from another perspective, when an account is live and has many views and comments, and there are no negative controversies, the platform's algorithm will prioritize that account. This helps to increase the customer base interested in the products that HN is affiliated with."

Find optimism in life.

For many young people of Generation Z, looking at things positively and finding laughter in unfortunate situations is a common trend today.

Rainbow Rabbit, a popular cartoon character on social media with over 4.4 million followers, attracts the attention of many young people because this character is always content and happy with everything in its own way, even if it's sometimes ridiculous, illogical, or naive. It doesn't try to conform to anyone else's standards, so it always maintains its optimism and positivity.

As the creator of the Rainbow Rabbit, artist Huynh Thai Ngoc shared: “Through the Rainbow Rabbit, I want to depict a life where people aren't preoccupied with appearances, conveying the message that everyone should always be positive and optimistic, less critical of each other, and everything will be more colorful. I think true happiness and peace don't come from grand things, but from small, simple things every day, such as a hug, a sweet word, a funny joke, or a carefree laugh. But the important thing is that happiness must be defined and chosen by oneself. If others impose their standards of living or happiness on you, you will always feel pressured and disappointed, because it's very difficult to reach a model that doesn't belong to you.”

It's no coincidence that Rainbow Rabbit has been so successful in building its image; in fact, the animated series about this character is considered one of the most popular Vietnamese online cartoons among young viewers recently. The way this character overcomes negative issues in life, and how they find joy in life... has brought positive perspectives to young people.

Huynh Thai Ngoc expressed: "I also had very sad days and learned to overcome everything by looking at it differently. That's also the message in the book, which I want to send to young people, because every journey of growing up has unhappy days, but above all, let's remain calm."
