Many options
Since the beginning of 2025, advertisements for summer programs and courses have been appearing more and more frequently on social media. As the summer break approaches, these programs not only explode in number but also diversify in form and activities to meet the needs of parents and students.
According to our investigation, summer camps and summer courses nowadays are very diverse in both content and organization, commonly including military summer camps, English summer camps, life skills summer camps, sex education summer camps, experiential summer camps, and meditation courses organized by temples…
Summer camps typically last from one week to a month, with prices varying from a few million to tens of millions of VND depending on the reputation of the organizing unit. Many organizations also offer various promotions to attract students, such as a 30% discount on tuition for early registration, a free program for the whole family, or interest-free installment payments.
This summer, instead of enrolling her child in a "third semester," Ms. Phan Thanh Tam from Lien Bao ward, Vinh Yen city, plans to send her child to summer camp to both relax and unwind after a hard school year, while also developing soft skills.
“After a year of hard work at school, I hope that through participating in summer camp, my child will make many new friends, become more open, have fun, and develop essential life skills. I hope that by participating in this summer camp program, my child will have the opportunity to experience learning through play and playing through learning, not just go on a few days of sightseeing and excursions,” Ms. Tam shared.
Quite satisfied with the diverse models of summer camps this year, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Long from Khai Quang ward, Vinh Yen city, said: "It's not difficult to see the benefits that summer camps can bring to children, such as helping to develop social skills by providing them with a new environment, different from school, helping children learn how to interact with new people, enhancing communication skills and building social relationships. These skills are very important for children's future development. In addition, summer camps also help children develop thinking skills through learning how to solve problems and face new challenges. This is an opportunity for them to experience and learn new thinking skills, while developing creativity and logical thinking."
Caution is needed.
In fact, summer camps today come in a wide variety of forms, both in content and organization. This leaves many parents feeling overwhelmed when faced with countless different summer camp programs.
“According to advertisements, summer camp activities in Vietnam can be divided into many types. The most common are summer camps organized by educational companies, soft skills centers, or businesses. These programs usually focus on developing soft skills, enhancing communication, leadership, teamwork, or combining learning and playing, and exploring nature. The đáng thing is that amidst this ‘forest’ of summer camps, not all programs are transparent and trustworthy. Personally, I feel overwhelmed when researching information,” shared Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, a parent of a student in Lien Bao ward, Vinh Yen city.
It's not just Mr. Thanh; in conversations with reporters, many parents expressed concern about the simultaneous promotion of summer camps on social media, fan pages, and websites. Images of students smiling brightly, engaging in lively activities, and attractive itineraries are flooding these platforms, inadvertently causing information about summer camps to explode and become difficult to control, with too many options appearing at once.
"When I first considered sending my child to a summer camp, I searched online for the name of a camp and found five almost identical pages. I didn't know which was real and which was fake. The information was similar, and the prices varied. I think parents should be cautious when choosing a place to send their children to avoid losing money and getting nothing in return," confided Ms. Nguyen Thu Trang, a parent in Hop Hoa town, Tam Duong district.
Summer camps offer children the opportunity to learn, experience, and grow in a new environment. However, with the rapid and uncontrolled growth of this market, parents need to be discerning in choosing programs that are truly meaningful, worth their expectations, and commensurate with the cost.
