Summer talent classes are flourishing.

Many parents share that they find it difficult to care for their children during the summer because most parents have to work. Summer break brings more pressure for parents than the school year. Some choose to send their children to their grandparents' house, while others enroll them in summer classes to reduce their screen time.

Focus on developing your aptitude for learning rather than acquiring knowledge.

Instead of looking for preparatory classes for the curriculum, over the years, Ms. Nguyen Tuyet Huong (Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City) has spent her time researching talent classes, extracurricular activities, and experiential programs for her children. "Because I wanted my children to excel in the new school year's curriculum, I often enrolled them in preparatory courses during the summer. After three years, I realized that this had inadvertently robbed them of their summer," Ms. Huong said.

During the summer, extracurricular classes become increasingly popular, ranking among parents' top choices. These classes allow children to learn while playing, moving away from textbook theories while still providing opportunities for experiential learning and intellectual development. At the Hoc Mon District Children's House in Ho Chi Minh City, a large number of parents have been registering their children for these classes in recent days.

Mr. Huynh Quang Minh (Hoc Mon District, Ho Chi Minh City) said that parents have to work all day, so they don't have time to play with their children. After asking about his child's interests, Mr. Minh decided to enroll him in an aerobics class. "It both improves his health and helps him make new friends, keeping him from being glued to his phone," Mr. Minh said.

Similarly, Ms. Huynh Thi Mai (Hoc Mon District, Ho Chi Minh City) also chose to enroll her child in drawing classes at the Hoc Mon District Children's House. "My son loves to draw, but no one at home knows how to teach him. We only enrolled him in this one drawing class, costing 300,000 VND per month, and he spends the rest of his time playing at home," Ms. Mai shared.

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Nha, Deputy Director of the Hoc Mon District Children's House, most of the participating children are at the primary school level. The Children's House has 24 talent classes, with the sports and martial arts classes having the largest number of participants. "As families' economic conditions improve, many parents want to invest in their children's talents and skills," Mr. Nha informed.

According to Mr. Nha, during their studies, students with outstanding achievements will be selected to participate in city-level competitions. This is an opportunity for them to interact, test their abilities, and seek opportunities for development in larger arenas.

Meaningful summer

Besides talent classes, experiential summer camps are also attracting the attention of parents. This year, the Hoc Mon District Children's House continues to organize the "Shining Star" summer camp, which in its first phase attracted more than 70 participants. For a fee of 2.1 million VND per camp, participants will have two weeks of day-care with many engaging training activities.

Meanwhile, according to Mr. Nguyen Minh Tan, Deputy Director of the District 5 Children's House in Ho Chi Minh City, the number of children registering for talent classes has increased by nearly 100% since the end of May. This is a positive sign as parents are gradually paying more attention to their children's health and talent development. "The District Children's House is currently offering classes in 20 talent subjects with tuition fees ranging from 200,000 to 400,000 VND per month," Mr. Tan said.

According to psychologist Dr. Dao Le Hoa An, summer vacation is a crucial time for children to explore and experience new activities, bringing many important values to their holistic development, such as developing social skills, physical development, self-confidence, and independence. "When participating in new activities, children will face challenges and overcome obstacles. This helps them believe in their abilities, develop problem-solving skills, and make independent decisions," Dr. Dao Le Hoa An stated.

Ho Chi Minh City is organizing free swimming and martial arts classes for underprivileged children at summer activity centers in each locality this summer.
