A place that connects hearts.

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - With the motto "connecting hearts, sharing love," the Social Work Department of Thanh Hoa Oncology Hospital has carried out many meaningful activities, accompanying patients in their examination and treatment. In particular, for patients in difficult circumstances, the department's staff have become a "bridge" connecting organizations and individuals to join hands in helping and empowering them to overcome hardships.

A place that connects hearts.

The Social Work Department of Thanh Hoa Oncology Hospital, along with sponsors, presented gifts to patients.

For many years, Ms. LTN from Hoang Yen commune (Hoang Hoa district) has become a "family member" of Thanh Hoa Oncology Hospital. In a conversation with a patient's family, six years ago, due to frequent fatigue, persistent coughing (sometimes coughing up blood), weight loss, and general exhaustion, Ms. N. went to the hospital for examination and was diagnosed with lung cancer. She also had a pituitary tumor, so she spent more time in the hospital than at home. The prolonged illness made life increasingly difficult for her family. To support her in her fight against the disease, the Social Work Department has mobilized support to help cover part of her treatment costs and provide daily meals...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngam, the mother of Ms. LTN, emotionally shared: “Not only did they provide material support, but during each treatment period, my family always received the care and love of the doctors, nurses, and social work staff. That care and encouragement gave my daughter the strength to overcome her pain and fight the disease.”

Ms. LTN is one of thousands of patients who have received material and emotional support from the Social Work Department throughout their treatment at Thanh Hoa Oncology Hospital over the years. The hospital has been carrying out charitable and humanitarian activities, accompanying and assisting patients, since its early days. Stemming from the increasing number of seriously ill patients, many of whom are in difficult circumstances and need community support, Thanh Hoa Oncology Hospital established a Social Work team under the Planning and General Affairs Department in 2022. In 2023, it was separated to form the Social Work Department.

Ms. Tran Linh Chi, Deputy Head of the Social Work Department, said: “Since its inception, the Social Work Department has become a pillar of support for many patients. Not only do the doctors, nurses, and staff of the department perform well in receiving, guiding, and supporting patients, but they also act as a bridge, connecting organizations and individuals to jointly encourage and provide material support to patients, helping them feel the community's companionship and strive to overcome the pain of illness and difficulties in life.”

In addition to supporting outpatient examinations and treatment, doctors, nurses, and social work staff also focus on implementing many meaningful and humane activities by connecting with organizations and individuals to support inpatients, especially those in difficult circumstances. These include a series of activities such as: "Warm Spring - Loving Tet," "Music Night - Flame of Hope" for cancer patients; donating 100 wigs to cancer patients with the message "As many strands of hair as there are strands of love"... Furthermore, the hospital collaborated with the "Cancer Patient Support Fund - A Brighter Tomorrow" to support nearly 100 patients with nearly 500 million VND; and coordinated with other organizations and individuals to donate approximately 800 gift packages and thousands of meals to patients undergoing treatment at the hospital. This also includes coordinating with sponsors to organize free haircuts for patients; and outdoor music nights for patients. Organize patient interaction sessions in different departments.

Although they don't directly care for or treat patients, with loving hearts and compassion for those facing difficult circumstances, doctors, nurses, and social work staff have been building bridges of love to help poor patients find more motivation to overcome their illnesses.
