Talk to children about love for their country.

In keeping with the celebratory atmosphere of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd, many publishing houses have presented diverse and rich publications for young children, both in content and form. All of them share the desire to instill love and national pride in the children.

Growing up with the country

What is readily apparent in Cao Mai Trang's poetry collection "Little Ones Love Their Homeland" (Ho Chi Minh City General Publishing House) is its fervent patriotism. Through 50 short poems, love and pride for the country are nurtured from landmarks: Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City, the ancient capital of Hue, Ha Long Bay, Phu Quoc…; from ordinary people: factory workers, teachers, firefighters, doctors…; or from traditional national beauties: the ao dai, ao ba ba, conical hats, water puppetry…

Each poem is accompanied by colorful illustrations by artist Nhật Ánh Phạm, helping children appreciate and be grateful to the generations of their ancestors: Countless generations of our forefathers / fought for peace / for our beloved homeland / and did not hesitate to sacrifice themselves.

On this occasion, Kim Dong Publishing House launched the "Leading Revolutionary Figures" book series, bringing together writers of a bygone era such as Le Minh, Viet Linh, Le Quoc Su, Son Tung, and Nghiem Da Van. The lives and careers of these revolutionary leaders are depicted through authentic and moving memoirs, vividly portrayed by the authors. Thanks to this, the portraits of outstanding sons and daughters of the nation such as To Hieu, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Ngo Gia Tu, Nguyen Huu Tien, Ton Duc Thang, Nguyen Duc Canh, and Tran Phu appear more relatable, helping today's readers better understand the historical context, social situation, and the revolutionary path to independence and freedom for the Fatherland.

As an author specializing in children's poetry, known for works such as: The Sea is a Child; My Childhood; Our Home is the Happiest; Flying Over Ho Guom Lake, poet Huynh Mai Lien (currently working at Vietnam Television) recently released her poetry collection Four Seasons of Flying Flags (Nha Nam and Vietnam Writers Association Publishing House).

“With 'Four Seasons of Flying Flags,' I want to tell readers, especially children, the story of Truong Sa, about the love of the Vietnamese people for the sea and islands. I write for them about the homeland seen from the East Sea, hoping that even though they are living on the mainland today, in comfortable and modern environments, they will always remember that their hearts beat for Hoang Sa, Truong Sa, and for Vietnam,” shared poet Huynh Mai Lien.

Proud of our roots

A new publishing house, comprised of young people aiming to create purely Vietnamese books for children, Slowbooks is presenting the picture book "I Am Vietnamese" (Vietnam Women's Publishing House) by authors Quynh Huong, Hoang Anh, and Maru. Throughout the 52 pages, the book features an innocent, sincere, yet joyful narrative voice of Vietnamese students proudly speaking about their beloved homeland, Vietnam.

Each page of the book is like a stanza of poetry, and each stanza is an explanation of why young children love their country. These reasons could be related to tradition, such as fairy tales, cuisine , traditional art, history, geography, or natural landscapes.

“This picture book is dedicated to young children who are proud to have Vietnamese blood in their veins. We believe that sustainable modern social development must be linked to the ability to continue the glorious past of our ancestors. Patriotism is something that needs to be nurtured through many generations. But let us also hope that the ultimate goal of love for our homeland is for each of us to live in peace with ourselves, others, and everyone around us,” Quynh Huong, representing the group of authors, expressed.

As a publisher specializing in purely Vietnamese children's books, Lionbooks is presenting the publication "Connecting - We Grow Up Together with Our Country" (Hanoi Publishing House). The publication includes 9 articles from various authors and experts, all focusing on building self-confidence in children through the process of inheriting, preserving, and transmitting Vietnamese culture. All profits from this publication will be donated to the Vietnam Fatherland Front, contributing to spreading love and fostering community cohesion, especially in helping people recover after the storm.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Chieu Xuan, Director of Lionbooks, said: “We hope to pass on to our children's generation publications that embody the spirit of Vietnam, from familiar things to the deepest values. We believe that, nurtured by their native culture, children will grow up with confidence, resilience, and pride in their roots.”
