Finnish telecommunications giant Nokia announced on March 31 that it had reached an agreement with Amazon, closing a patent infringement lawsuit related to video technology.

In an official statement, Nokia stated that it “has signed a patent agreement with Amazon, including the use of Nokia's video technology in Amazon's streaming services and devices.”

This agreement means that all previous lawsuits filed by Nokia against Amazon will be withdrawn. However, the detailed terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

Nokia filed lawsuits against Amazon in October 2023 in five global jurisdictions, including the UK, the European Union's Universal Patent Court (UPC), Germany, India, and the US.

According to Nokia, Amazon's services and devices—particularly Prime Video—have violated a range of the company's patents related to video compression, content distribution, content recommendation systems, and hardware-related technologies.

Amazon isn't the only company facing Nokia's claims. HP was also sued in the US in October 2023 for allegedly using Nokia's video technology without a license. That case was settled in October 2024.
