Local authorities in Ha Tinh province are focusing on urging farmers to speed up the spring rice production process to ensure it adheres to the seasonal schedule.
Can Loc district is leading in terms of progress in spring rice production in Ha Tinh province to date. With an area of 9,167 hectares of rice, the district has completed planting 7,854 hectares, reaching a rate of 85.7%.
This year, Can Loc district continues to focus on land consolidation associated with the development of OCOP, organic, and commercial products, with over 5,900 hectares of concentrated rice production. The locality has structured the crop varieties to include: Glutinous Rice 98, Ha Phat 3, Bac Thinh, Nhi Uu 838, Thai Xuyen 111, HT1, etc. To minimize production risks, the district has directed communes and towns to structure the crop so that no single variety accounts for more than 30% of the planted area and to diversify the varieties based on growth time, adaptability, resistance, especially to blast disease.
Cam Xuyen district has the largest area of rice production in the province for the 2024 spring crop, with 9,560.1 hectares. This season, the district expanded the area of organic rice production using machine transplanting and tray seedling technology, linked in a supply chain with businesses in the communes of Cam Binh, Yen Hoa, Nam Phuc Thang, Cam Quang, Cam Thanh, and Cam Xuyen town, covering a total area of 85 hectares. With this linkage model, farmers receive input supplies from businesses and guaranteed product sales.
Participating in the production linkage in Cam Xuyen, Hoa Lac IEC Joint Stock Company (Thach Ha) organized concentrated rice seedling cultivation in Yen Hoa commune (Cam Xuyen) with the aim of uniformly cultivating the ST25 rice variety. This rice variety has good salt tolerance, resistance to blast disease (level 2), and bacterial leaf blight, resulting in high-quality rice.
Once the seedlings meet the standards, Hoa Lac IEC Joint Stock Company transports them to the fields and mobilizes transplanting machines to help farmers in Cam Xuyen free up labor, reduce costs, increase production efficiency, and create high-quality organic rice products to serve the market.
As a large-scale farmer, Mr. Tran Huu Toan (Binh Quang village, Cam Binh commune) shared: “ With an area of 16 sao (approximately 1600 square meters), my family used to spend a whole week planting, but now the planting season has become much easier. The company not only supplies seeds and planting services but also allows farmers to defer payment and purchase the produce at the end of the season. This is an incentive for farmers to stay in the fields, expand the area of organic rice cultivation, and increase the value of agricultural production ."
This spring, Thach Ha district is focusing on rice cultivation on 7,970 hectares, with 3,058 hectares completed so far, reaching nearly 38% of the planned area. This season, the locality continues to comprehensively mechanize all stages of production to reduce seasonal pressure from planting to harvesting.
To expand the cultivation area of new, high-quality rice varieties such as Bac Thinh, Ha Phat 3, BT09, Hana No. 7..., Thach Ha district has provided support for seed purchase costs, creating motivation for farmers to stay in the fields and increase production efficiency.
At this time, farmers in Ha Tinh city are also racing against time to quickly complete the production of 1,368 hectares of spring rice according to the seasonal schedule.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoan (70 years old), residing in Nam Phu village, Thach Trung commune (Ha Tinh city), shared: " This season, my family sowed Bac Thinh rice seedlings, and we expect to finish transplanting them before the Lunar New Year. Going to the field to transplant the seedlings at a time when cold air is approaching means we have to meticulously cover and secure them with plastic sheeting to avoid damage caused by the severe cold ."
Based on the growth schedule of each rice variety, from January 10th, 2024 to February 8th, 2024, farmers in Ha Tinh province simultaneously went to the fields to quickly complete the planting of over 59,107 hectares of spring rice. This year, the entire province aims for a spring rice crop yield of 342,000 tons, with an expected yield of over 57.92 quintals/hectare.
After planting, farmers focus on measures to protect the rice crop from damage by rats. All stages are meticulously and carefully prepared by the farmers, who carry with them the belief and hope for a bountiful and successful harvest.
According to Mr. Phan Van Huan, Head of the Crop Production Department (Ha Tinh Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection), the entire province has completed the production of 25,416 hectares of spring rice, accounting for 43% of the total area; of which, the area sown directly is 24,595 hectares and the area transplanted is 821 hectares. Local authorities need to continue directing farmers to sow seedlings with nylon covers on 100% of the area according to technical procedures to protect against cold; encourage transplanting young seedlings (3 leaves), applying the method of seedling collection, and using transplanting machines in areas where land conversion has been completed. For areas where direct sowing is done, farmers should be encouraged to sow an additional 5-10% of reserve seedlings in the corners of the fields covered with nylon for replanting and prepare short-day rice seeds as a reserve in case of severe cold, frost damage, or localized flooding that kills the rice crop...
