Farmers harvest summer-autumn rice

DTO - In the upstream communes of Dong Thap province, these days, farmers are focusing on harvesting the summer-autumn rice crop to prepare for the flood. According to farmers, the old Thuong Phuoc 1 commune, now part of the new Thuong Phuoc commune, mainly grows rice and sticky rice, with a yield of about 6.5 tons/ha for sticky rice and 6.25 tons/ha for rice. Sticky rice costs 7,000 VND/kg, rice costs 6,200 - 6,500 VND/kg, with this selling price farmers make a profit but not much. It is expected that by July 21, over 1,000 hectares of the old Thuong Phuoc 1 commune will be harvested, after which the locality will open the sluice to welcome the flood with lots of alluvium.

Thuong Phuoc commune is merged from Thuong Phuoc 1, Thuong Phuoc 2 and Thuong Thoi Tien communes. In which, Thuong Phuoc 2 and Thuong Thoi Tien areas have a closed dike of 2,600 hectares, flood discharge will depend on the actual needs of people in the production area.
