Currently, Mr. Huan is continuing to expand the scale and multiply the breeding population to 300 animals to meet market demand.
Also in Phu Phuong 1 village, Mr. Nguyen Van Nhan is one of the pioneering households raising porcupines in the commune. Mr. Nguyen Van Nhan shared: "Through research, we found that hedgehogs are easy to raise and suitable for the family's conditions. So in 2014, the family boldly invested 500 million to build a cage to raise porcupines."
Mr. Nhan added that raising porcupines is very easy and does not take much time. Hedgehog food is also very easy to find, and taking care of it is not difficult, because hedgehogs rarely get sick, and the loss rate is low.
Talking about the technique of raising hedgehogs, Mr. Nguyen Van Nhan said, hedgehog cages only need to be built simply, with a cement floor, then fix the cage with an iron frame or brick. If well cared for, fed well, and the cage is kept clean, hedgehogs grow very quickly and reproduce a lot.
If raised properly, a male hedgehog can pair with 1 to 2 female hedgehogs and still reproduce. Each pair gives birth to 3 litters/year, each litter has 2 to 2 cubs, a mother porcupine can reproduce within 3 years.
Currently, on an area of over 200 m2, his family is raising 50 hedgehogs, of which 20 are parent hedgehogs. After deducting expenses, Mr. Nhan earns about 100 million VND/year by raising porcupines.
Also with the desire to build a model of specialty animal husbandry that brings high value, Mr. Le Duc Hoa in Dong Sinh village, Phu Nhuan commune, Nhu Thanh district (Thanh Hoa province) has researched and learned many models. different livestock. In 2018, after going to Ha Tinh to ask about the model of raising deer for velvet, Mr. Hoa invested 500 million VND to buy breeds and build barns to raise deer.
According to Mr. Hoa, deer are small eaters and do not require much care. However, farmers only need to pay attention that when deer start to grow antlers, they need to supplement nutritious food such as bananas, corn, carrots, soybeans... and have a more special care regime to help the antlers reach weight. best quality.
“Male deer are about 2 years old when they start harvesting antlers. Velvet harvest time is from the end of January to the 5th lunar month. Each deer yields 1,5 - 3 ounces of antlers/year. Adult deer yield 6-7 ounces of antler each year. The larger the deer, the higher the number of antlers. Some deer can collect antlers twice a year.
