Accordingly, Noo Phuoc Thinh has for the first time clarified the recent controversy with musician Do Hieu. Specifically, he stated that since Do Hieu posted a status about music copyright issues, many viewers have commented with the same content on Noo Phuoc Thinh's social media platforms, claiming that the male singer has been "singing without permission" for a long time.
Noo Phuoc Thinh affirmed, "Up until now, according to the principle, for each show, the organizers have to obtain a permit from the Department of Culture and pay royalties for the songs performed in the program through VCPMC - the Vietnam Copyright Protection Center for Music. This center has been authorized by musicians, including Do Hieu, to receive royalties. Do Hieu also confirmed that he received royalties for the songs Noo performed from this center. Noo also pays royalties to other musicians through the center for each performance."
Noo Phuoc Thinh asserts he "doesn't sing in temples."
Noo Phuoc Thinh stated that he purchased the exclusive rights to each song for two years. After the term expires, whether or not to renew the exclusive rights or sign a copyright agreement is a matter of agreement between the songwriter and the singer. The request for renewal was only discussed with Noo Phuoc Thinh's team by Do Hieu about a month ago, through his manager, Tuan Khanh.
However, Noo's side decided not to renew the exclusive contract for several reasons. Currently, Noo has no intention of continuing to use these songs exclusively. When the need arises, the male singer will discuss it with the songwriters and fully respect the regulations on performance copyright of the Vietnam Copyright Protection Center for Music.
Furthermore, Noo Phuoc Thinh only signs performance rights agreements with digital music companies; the songwriter himself signs contracts with these entities for the copyright.
Noo Phuoc Thinh said that he understands the relationship between songwriter and singer is a symbiotic one, where both sides benefit from collaborating, so he always respects the intellectual property of songwriters and cherishes the works he sings.
Noo Phuoc Thinh affirmed that he is ready to sign copyright agreements if requested by the songwriters he has collaborated with, is currently collaborating with, or has collaborated with in the past. However, he does not wish to continue singing the eight songs by songwriter Do Hieu. Therefore, there is no question of banning him from singing them, as Do Hieu claimed. He himself also does not want to use these songs anymore.
Noo Phuoc Thinh confided: "I feel sad that the situation has escalated to this extent. I also regret that the songs involved in this controversy were once my hits. But the situation is beyond repair, so let's just consider it the end of our relationship."
