People's Artist Bach Tuyet continues her collaboration with a younger artist in her next project, following the success of "Come Home and Listen to Mother's Lullaby" (a collaboration with singer Hoang Dung and composer Hua Kim Tuyen).
The renowned cải lương (Vietnamese traditional opera) artist Bạch Tuyết revealed that she will be collaborating on a music project with rapper Wowy, a contestant she has greatly admired since watching him as a judge on a rap competition show. "Wowy's name reminds me of the philosophy of non-action (wu-wei) of Lao Tzu. When working with him, I found him to be incredibly gentle, extremely intelligent, yet working like a child. That convinced me," said People's Artist Bạch Tuyết.
People's Artist Bach Tuyet is known as one of the leading figures in the art of Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) in Vietnam. But she also impresses with her many musical productions featuring young singers.
She has previously remade popular songs such as Sơn Tùng M-TP's "Lạc Trôi," Đen Vâu's "Mang Tiền Về Cho Mẹ," and Rhymastic's "Lạc."
People's Artist Bach Tuyet believes that passion cannot be forced, especially in the arts. She affirms that she creates because she enjoys it, and is fortunate that her work has been well-received by the public.
She "shakes hands" with rapper Wowy.
"I don't intend to do anything to attract young audiences, especially young people today; they don't need my advice. They have wonderful ways of living their lives. Working with young people a lot, I have to observe and learn from them. Young people now go find what they need themselves. Just do what you like, and if you're lucky, they'll like what you do; that's good fortune," shared People's Artist Bach Tuyet.
With her long years of experience, her prestige and dedication to the profession are respected by many young artists. In 2022, she announced her plan to continue developing Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) on social media with the project "Tinh Hoa Cai Luong" (The Essence of Cai Luong).
According to People's Artist Bach Tuyet, this is an experiment to help this traditional art form reach millions of young Gen Z viewers. "Decades in the profession have given me a sense of what audiences like and value, and based on that, I select what to put on TikTok, not based on subjective opinions," she said.
People's Artist Bach Tuyet added about modernizing Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera): "Why blame young people for not listening to Cai Luong? Cai Luong must be written in a style that keeps up with the times."
