People's Artist Huu Do passed away at the age of 90

Relatives said he died at 10:44 p.m. on August 13, due to pulmonary embolism. His funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. on August 16 at the Funeral Home of the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Hospital, No. 1 Tran Khanh Du, Hanoi . The memorial service and funeral will be held on the same day.

His body will be cremated at Hoan Vu Crematorium, Van Dien; buried at Lac Hong Vien Cemetery, Hoa Binh .

Artist Huu Do is a familiar face to theater and television audiences nationwide. He has been retired from acting for more than 10 years. A few years ago, he was still in good health and attended the anniversary celebrations of the Vietnam Drama Theater, where he worked for many years.

He was born in 1934 in Hanoi and was active in amateur drama troupes since he was a student. Thanks to his bright face and tall stature, Huu Do was often present in movements at school and in the locality.

In 1954, while studying at Nguyen Trai High School, he was chosen to play the role of Ca Khiet in the play Cai Tu Che , a collaboration between students from major schools in Hanoi and performed at the Hanoi Opera House. He also acted in several semi-professional theater troupes in Hanoi such as Song Hong Drama Society, Mua Thu, and Dong Phuong.

In 1960, he joined the Hanoi Drama Troupe, participating in many plays such as The Guillotine, The Guerrillas, Lam Son Tu Nghia . After a while, he worked at the General Railway Art Troupe, holding the position of troupe leader. Around 1970, he joined the Central Drama Troupe, now the Vietnam Drama Theater.

In addition to drama, the artist has acted in many TV series since the 1990s. With a gentle appearance, he was often assigned many decent roles such as teachers, directors in The Magic of Love, White Illusion ; provincial party committee officials in Soldier's Love Story ; police, soldiers in Awakening , The Intelligence General and His Two Wives , some parts of the film Criminal Police ; directors in Sweet and Deceptive , Why Did You Forget Me, Warm Home.

One of the last films he appeared in was Nep Nha , filmed in 2008. After that, he turned down many invitations because of his poor health. In addition, he once said that the filmmaking style of some later generations of directors was no longer suitable.

Persistent and dedicated to his profession, artist Huu Do has received the greatest happiness, which is the love of the audience and the respect of his colleagues.
