To reach Bromo – Indonesia's most famous active volcano – visitors must depart at dawn, traveling in off-road jeeps across the vast sandy desert of the Sea of Sand area within Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. As the clock strikes just after 4 a.m., temperatures drop below 100°C, and thick fog blankets the landscape, yet a continuous stream of vehicles still climbs to Penanjakan Viewpoint – renowned as the best place to watch the sunrise in Bromo.

Off-road jeeps will take you across the vast sandy desert of the Sea of Sand area in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park.
And then, as the first rays of light appeared, the vast valley gradually awoke. Before us was a breathtaking scene: Bromo – with its smoking crater, Batok – the dark brown, conical mountain beside it, and in the distance, Semeru, the highest volcano on Java, still steadily spewing white smoke into the sky. Clouds drifted across the crater, creating a scene both mystical and awe-inspiring, leaving anyone speechless with emotion.

As the sun rises higher, the entire Bromo area glows in a honey-golden hue. At the foot of the mountain, native Tenggerese horsemen weave through the meadows, guiding visitors closer to the crater rim.
Getting to Bromo isn't difficult because it doesn't involve much trekking.

Leaving the Tengger Plateau, the journey continues to Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, located in Lumajang County, about 70km south of Bromo. If Bromo is a symbol of fire, then Tumpak Sewu is the symphony of water.

Nestled amidst the tropical rainforest, Tumpak Sewu, meaning "thousand waterfalls" in Javanese, appears as a giant curtain of water, where hundreds of streams cascade down from a height of nearly 120 meters, merging with the mist to create a scene that is both majestic and poetic. Viewed from above, the waterfall resembles the long hair of Mother Earth, flowing freely through the verdant mountains and forests.

To reach the base of the falls, visitors must hike along a slippery trail, climb steep slopes, and cling to ropes to cross the stream. At the foot of Tumpak Sewu, humans seem to vanish into the vast wilderness, leaving only a feeling of ultimate purity and insignificance.
