(Baohatinh.vn) - With only 6 days left until the opening of the Vung Ang - Bung expressway connecting Ha Tinh and Quang Tri, investors, contractors, and consultants are sticking to the construction site to bring the project to the finish line on schedule.

At 12:05 PM on August 12th, amidst scorching hot weather and burning hot winds from Laos, dozens of engineers and workers were diligently laying asphalt concrete on the final bridge spans at the first section of the Vung Ang - Bung expressway project.
Bridge No. 1, spanning the valley connecting two hills in Ky Hoa commune, Ha Tinh province, is almost the final item before the Vung Ang - Bung expressway is opened and put into operation. Construction in the area is difficult and complex, along with some other objective reasons, so the completion time for Bridge No. 1 has been longer than expected.
As the project completion deadline approaches, despite working under intense heat, the officials, engineers, and workers of the investor, contractor, and supervisory consulting unit are still making every effort to stay on the construction site.
After laying the asphalt concrete surface of the bridge, the contractor continued to complete the installation of the median strip and the construction of expansion joints. Hoa Binh 479 Joint Stock Company - the contractor for bridge number 1 - expects to complete all project items before the project is opened to traffic.
About 7 km from the No. 1 bridge construction site is the Deo But tunnel project, undertaken by Son Hai Group, which is also rushing to complete its final stages. The Deo But tunnel is nearly 1 km long, with a total investment of over 1,000 billion VND, and is designed with two tunnel tubes: the left tunnel is 716m long, the right tunnel is 840m long, each tunnel is 15m wide and 8m high.
During the initial investment phase, the right tunnel section running in the North-South direction will be put into operation first. The left tunnel section, after being drilled through, will not be used for operation but will instead be used for rescue and relief operations. However, on July 17, 2025, the Ministry of Construction approved the complete investment for the left tunnel section of the Deo But tunnel.
The Deo But Tunnel and the 4 km main section under construction by Son Hai Group have reached 98% completion, ensuring the opening of the entire Vung Ang - Bung expressway project. The company is striving to complete the remaining work.
The Vung Ang - Bung Expressway is 55.34 km long, of which 12.9 km runs through Ha Tinh province and 42.44 km runs through Quang Tri province (formerly Quang Binh province). According to the requirements of the Government and the Ministry of Construction, the Vung Ang - Bung Expressway will be completed and opened to traffic on August 19th.
According to information from Project Management Board 6 (Ministry of Construction) - the investor of the Vung Ang - Bung expressway, the overall construction progress of the project has reached over 98%. The unit is urging contractors and supervisory consultants to focus manpower, machinery, and equipment to complete the remaining items, ensuring the opening to traffic on August 19th.
The final sections of the Vung Ang - Bung expressway are being completed urgently.

The Vung Ang - Bung Expressway is 55.34 km long, passing through two provinces: Ha Tinh (12.9 km) and Quang Binh - now Quang Tri (42.44 km). Its starting point intersects with National Highway 12C, connecting to the Ham Nghi - Vung Ang Expressway in Ky Tan commune, Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province, and its end point is in Cu Nam commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Tri province, linking to the Bung - Van Ninh Expressway.
The Vung Ang - Bung Expressway is invested by Project Management Board 6 (Ministry of Construction). The project is divided into two construction packages. Package XL01 is being constructed by Son Hai Group – Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Corporation – 484 Joint Stock Company – 369 Construction Joint Stock Company – 479 Hoa Binh Joint Stock Company, while package XL02 is being constructed by Phuong Thanh Transportation Construction and Investment Joint Stock Company and Lizen Joint Stock Company. The section through Ha Tinh province is part of construction package XL01.
During the initial investment phase, the expressway had 4 lanes, no emergency stopping lanes, and several emergency stopping points spaced 4-5 km apart. The roadbed width was 17 m, and the design speed was 60-90 km/h.
