In Thanh Khe district, according to inspections by the Da Nang City Department of Natural Resources and Environment and observations by the Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company, wastewater is flowing into the sea at the discharge point at the end of Ton That Dam street. In Son Tra district, Man Thai beach and the discharge point opposite the Mobile Training Company also have wastewater flowing into the sea. Both discharge points in this area are accumulating wastewater, causing unpleasant odors for tourists.

Wastewater is discharged directly into the sea in Son Tra district, Da Nang city.
Similarly, in Ngu Hanh Son district, there are currently three wastewater discharge points into the sea: one at the resort on Truong Sa Street, one opposite Nguyen Duc Thuan Street, and one near the resort on Vo Nguyen Giap Street. These discharge points all have stagnant water. The wastewater discharged into the sea at these locations consistently emits a strong, foul odor. During hot days, the wastewater discharge further exacerbates the pollution situation at the tourist beaches.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Duc, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company, stated that the unique characteristic of Da Nang's drainage system is that it collects wastewater along with rainwater. Currently, the reopening of coastal hotels has overloaded the wastewater collection system, leading to wastewater being discharged into the sea despite the hot, sunny weather and lack of rain.
Currently, the Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company is implementing measures to mitigate this situation. The company is deploying workers to level and build sand dams at the aforementioned discharge points to prevent wastewater from flowing into the sea, while also operating the pumps at maximum capacity at these points. However, the large volume of wastewater at certain peak times still overflows into the sea.
According to Ms. Duc, these projects are underway and not yet completed. In particular, the Eastern Environmental Improvement Project was expected to be completed by the end of 2022 but has not yet been handed over. Currently, the Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company is waiting to receive these facilities to connect them to the wastewater collection system.
Da Nang City has invested in two coastal wastewater treatment projects: the Eastern Environmental Improvement Project (Son Tra District), with a total investment of over 1,440 billion VND, and the project to build drainage works along Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts, with a budget of 2,450 billion VND. Only when these two projects are operational will the problem of wastewater being discharged into the sea be completely resolved.
