On the morning of May 24th, the Decathlon Foundation Day 2026 x Special Olympics Vietnam opened at the Lanh Binh Thang Gymnasium in Ho Chi Minh City amidst the vibrant atmosphere of a sporting event.
Over 200 athletes with intellectual disabilities had the opportunity to experience an equal and inspiring sporting arena. The organizers meticulously designed five competitive events suitable for everyone.
Instead of the casual recreational activities of the previous two events, the organizers upgraded the program into a professional tournament with the message: "Inclusive sports - no one left behind."
Now in its third year, the 2026 Inclusive Sports Festival holds special significance thanks to the support of sponsors dedicated to the community of people with disabilities.
This year's event recorded impressive numbers with the participation of nearly 200 children and teenagers aged 10 to 22, representing special schools, clubs, and family groups in Ho Chi Minh City.
The tournament is rigorously standardized across five official disciplines: athletics, basketball, archery, long jump, and sandbag throwing. Through these events, the organizers award 39 prestigious medals to honor the efforts of those who have strived to surpass themselves.
Supporting this meaningful journey is the companionship of over 150 volunteers who are always present on the field to guide and wholeheartedly cheer on the athletes.
In Vietnam, there are approximately 3 million people with intellectual disabilities (equivalent to 3% of the population). This vulnerable community group is in dire need of understanding and access to social opportunities.
The organizers hope that sports will be a strong bridge helping children find joy and improve their health. At the same time, the event conveys a profound message to society and parents: Every child has the right to play, to participate in sports, and to enjoy life fully and equally like everyone else.
