After returning to the country on August 23rd, Thaksin Shinawatra received treatment in the high-level ward at the Police General Hospital due to chest pain, high blood pressure, and low blood oxygen saturation.
The Supreme Court of Thailand had previously ruled that Thaksin must serve an 8-year prison sentence, but the former Thai Prime Minister received a royal pardon on September 1st and will only serve one year. Currently, the former Prime Minister still requires daily medical check-ups, so the exact date of his return to prison remains uncertain.
According to Winyat Chartmontree, the former prime minister could potentially be released early but instead placed under house arrest, which could include the installation of an electronic monitoring (EM) device.
The Thai Ministry of Justice announced that on important occasions, many well-behaved prisoners with health problems who are serving only one year of their sentence may be granted royal pardon.
