Marc Guehi was the focal point in Man City's draw. |
In the early hours of February 2nd, Man City were held to a draw by Tottenham despite leading by two goals. In Tottenham's goal to reduce the deficit to 1-2, striker Dominic Solanke appeared to kick Marc Guehi in the back of the leg, causing the defender to score an own goal.
The goal was highly controversial as VAR reviewed it but did not intervene, keeping the goal intact. When asked by Sky Sports about the refereeing in the match, Guardiola reluctantly answered and instead asked the interviewer whether he thought it was a foul.
Guardiola said: "Of course it couldn't have been a goal. What could I say? Marc Guehi was in possession, he was kicked from behind, and it was a goal. So what could I say? Nothing!"

Pep quipped: "It's interesting what's happening in the Premier League. The Premier League organizers are explaining their decision that Solanke touched the ball first, so the goal was credited to the Tottenham striker. It's fascinating."
This result means Man City couldn't close the gap with Arsenal, and are now 6 points behind the league leaders. However, Guardiola insisted this wasn't the decisive stage of the season. He said: "There are 14 games left, plenty of points to fight for."
