The family of Mr. Le Van Thien in Phong Dao Street, Ninh Son Ward, Hoa Lu City, is one of the exemplary families in the blood donation movement, receiving a Certificate of Commendation from the Provincial People's Committee. All four members of Mr. Thien's family have participated in blood donation, totaling over 50 times, with Mr. Thien himself donating blood nearly 30 times.
Sharing his joy, Mr. Thien said: "In the hustle and bustle of life, in the fast-paced cycle of work, sometimes we forget that we are neglecting to pay attention to and spend time with our families. Therefore, when we can do good deeds together, guiding the whole family towards community activities, it will be an opportunity to warm the bond between parents and children, together igniting the flame of compassion in our hearts and building a happy family. Each individual and family doing good deeds will contribute to spreading and building a united and happy community."
From having little understanding of the charitable act of blood donation, Mr. Thien's wife, Ms. Bui Thi Minh, has now become an active volunteer in the local blood donation movement.
Ms. Minh shared: "Previously, I was worried that donating blood would affect my health. However, Mr. Thien inspired me, provided accurate information about blood donation, and took me along to participate in blood donation..."
Having witnessed so many people with noble hearts, dedicating their time and precious blood to help revive the lives of patients, my awareness and attitude towards blood donation have changed. Not only do I support my husband's participation, but I have also started donating blood. When my children are old enough, I will encourage them to participate as well.
To date, my entire family regularly participates in blood donation drives whenever the local authorities organize one. Seeing patients recover and be saved by donated blood motivates me even more to encourage relatives, colleagues, and neighbors to participate in blood donation to save lives.
Mr. Do Cong Chien, who works in the healthcare sector, has participated in blood donation nearly 30 times in the past 10 years. Not only does he participate in blood donation himself, but Mr. Chien also actively encourages his friends, colleagues, and fellow volunteers to join.
Mr. Chien is also the Chairman of the HMTN White Blouse + Ninh Binh Health Sector Club, established in 2023, with a core group of doctors, nurses, health sector officials, and some volunteers from other agencies and units. The club currently has over 100 members.
Under the direct guidance of the Department of Health and the Provincial Steering Committee for Blood Donation, the Club is a leading force in the work of promoting, mobilizing, and organizing blood donation, especially emergency blood donation programs in response to calls from the Provincial Red Cross Society (the permanent agency of the Provincial Steering Committee for Blood Donation).
Mr. Do Cong Chien said: "Every year, the club participates in donating hundreds of units of blood to patients, thereby contributing to spreading the blood donation movement to become a widespread movement throughout society, demonstrating the spirit of 'mutual support and compassion,' and a willingness to share and volunteer for the community."
On the occasion of International Blood Donor Day on June 14th, two families and one individual from the club were honored and awarded by the Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Blood Donation Campaign Steering Committee. The positive contributions of these exemplary volunteers have contributed to the strong development of the blood donation movement in the province.
Over the past five years, more than 70,000 volunteers in our province have registered to donate blood, resulting in the collection of 60,000 units of blood (nearly 15,000 liters). In the first five months of 2025 alone, the province received 6,000 units of blood, reaching 60% of the annual plan. This has promptly met the needs for emergency care and treatment of patients at hospitals throughout the province, while also providing support to central-level hospitals.
Even during the most challenging times, such as the summer months; before, during, and after the Lunar New Year, our province has ensured blood safety. The positive results of the blood donation movement are due to the enthusiasm, responsibility, and silent giving of the volunteers.
With the motto of "persistent effort yields lasting results," awareness of blood donation work is constantly changing. The blood donation movement has spread widely from the province to villages, hamlets, agencies, units, schools; families, and clans.
Volunteers join the blood donation movement regardless of gender or profession; they share a single belief: "Every drop of blood donated saves a life."
Comrade Bui Trong Ky, Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society and Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Voluntary Blood Donation Campaign, said: Recently, the Provincial Voluntary Blood Donation Campaign Committee organized a ceremony to express gratitude and reward 200 exemplary individuals and families who have made many positive contributions to the voluntary blood donation movement. The noble actions of these volunteers have spread love and compassion for patients.
Although the blood donation movement in the province has achieved many results, currently only 1.3% of the population participates in blood donation. According to the World Health Organization's recommendations, a country or locality must have at least 2% of its population participating in blood donation (at least 20,000 units of blood per year) to ensure blood safety.
Therefore, to promptly and consistently meet the enormous demand for blood, everyone needs to pay attention to the blood donation movement; the exemplary and active participation of volunteers will significantly contribute to spreading and igniting the "flame" of compassion, thereby encouraging more individuals in the community to participate in blood donation, helping to revive the lives of patients.
