(CPV) – The UPU International Letter Writing Competition helps students improve their writing skills, enrich their thinking, contribute to strengthening friendship between nations and help them understand more about the role of post in social life.
On November 11, at Nguyen Khuyen Secondary and High School (Cam Le District, Da Nang City), the Ministry of Information and Communications in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Training, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Vietnam Writers Association, Vietnam Post Corporation and the Tien Phong & Nhi Dong Newspaper organized the launching ceremony of the 11th UPU International Letter Writing Competition (54).
Speaking at the launching ceremony of the contest, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Bui Hoang Phuong, Head of the contest organizing committee, said that the contest helps students improve their writing skills, enrich their thinking, contribute to strengthening friendship between nations and help them understand more about the role of postal services in social life.

In 35 years of participating in the UPU International Letter Writing Competition, Vietnam has won 17 prizes, including 5 international prizes for Da Nang students. Notably, Nguyen Do Quang Minh, a student of Nguyen Khuyen Secondary and High School (Da Nang) won the first national prize in the 53rd UPU International Letter Writing Competition. That is also the reason why the organizing committee chose Da Nang to organize the launch this year.
“Every year, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) chooses a very prominent issue, a global and humane issue, to provide the theme for the contest. Therefore, when participating in the contest, students not only practice their writing skills but also express their understanding and feelings about contemporary issues,” Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong shared.
The theme of the 54th UPU International Letter Writing Competition 2025 is: “Imagine you are the ocean. Write a letter to someone explaining why and how they should take good care of you.”
The theme of the contest is associated with the goal of "Conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources" in the system of 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations.
With this year’s theme, students were transformed into the ocean to raise issues they are facing, the most prominent of which is marine pollution. They can use their soaring imagination and unlimited creativity to talk, confide, remind people about the role of the ocean as well as share solutions and specific actions to protect the ocean, sea and marine ecosystem; demonstrating the responsibility of humans, especially the young generation, in preserving nature for sustainable development.
