Great news for coffee lovers in their 50s!

Scientists from the University of São Paulo School of Medicine (Brazil) analyzed data from 6,378 participants, with an average age of nearly 50, examining the link between dietary polyphenol intake, the risk of metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular risk factors.

Metabolic syndrome is a group of conditions that occur together, increasing the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. These conditions include high blood pressure, high blood sugar, abdominal obesity, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels. These are the most common risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

New research has just discovered another amazing benefit of coffee.

Meanwhile, polyphenols are bioactive compounds with well-known antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, found in abundance in coffee and several other foods such as fruits, chocolate, and wine.

Participants were asked to answer questionnaires about their eating habits and frequency of consumption of 92 polyphenol-rich foods, including coffee.

During an average follow-up period of over 8 years, 2,031 people were diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, meaning they had at least three of the following conditions: abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high triglycerides, and high lipids (dyslipidemia).

The results revealed that consuming more polyphenols from coffee and foods such as chocolate, red wine, tea, and fruits (including red grapes, strawberries, and oranges) can help reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome by up to 23%. How to walk in a way that keeps you healthy and in good shape?

There's a common misconception that walking is a simple exercise and not enough to help with weight loss; however, experts say that if done regularly and systematically, it's absolutely beneficial for maintaining fitness and health.

Fitness coach James Rodgers, currently working in the US, shared with Eat This, Not That! that walking is a great activity for weight loss and will be even more helpful if you make it a natural, regular, and planned habit.

Walking regularly can definitely help with weight loss.

However, this coach does not recommend plans that are difficult to consistently achieve and "unrealistic" for many people, such as walking 10,000 steps a day, as this can become a burden.

To walk effectively, first focus on building endurance through regular exercise. Walking sessions should have specific goals, perhaps starting with just 15 minutes, then increasing by 10 minutes every 2-3 weeks until reaching an hour.

In addition, this trainer also advises people to focus not only on the number of steps but also on speed and pace (steps per minute), paying attention to swinging their arms faster. Especially, walking on new terrains that challenge the muscles (trails, undulating paths, parks) will make the workout more enjoyable. 4 warning signs that your bones are aging rapidly and are more susceptible to disease.

Bones are the framework that supports the body, enabling flexible movement and protecting vital organs. However, over time, bones gradually weaken due to the natural aging process.

Early recognition of warning signs of rapid bone aging not only helps prevent osteoporosis but also protects overall health. Several timely interventions can help maintain healthy bones.

Easily fractured bones are a warning sign that the bones have aged.

Warning signs that bones are aging rapidly include:

Persistent joint pain. Joint pain is a common sign of aging. The pain is often concentrated in weight-bearing joints such as the knees, hips, spine, or wrists. The cause may be decreased bone density, cartilage damage, or arthritis. If the pain persists without apparent injury, it could be a sign of osteoporosis or osteoarthritis.

Gradual height loss. If a person notices their height decreasing over time, this could be a sign of bone loss. When bones degenerate rapidly, the vertebrae collapse or become damaged, leading to a decrease in height. In some cases, hunchback or scoliosis may also occur. This is a clear indication that your bones are weakening, especially in people over 50. Start your day with health news to read more about this article!
