Researchers have identified several factors and proposed ways to leverage these cultural values ​​as intrinsic strengths, contributing to socio-economic development and building the position, image, and cultural brand of Da Nang city in the new context.

Reviving the tradition of innovation

Associate Professor Ngo Van Minh, a senior lecturer at the Regional Political Academy III, believes that Quang Nam province needs to promote its tradition of innovation and reform. “The people of Quang Nam have formed a tradition of innovation and reform. As Professor Ngo Duc Thinh observed: Quang Nam has historically been a place of exchange, not stagnation or confinement; therefore, its people are open-minded, receptive, and willing to learn, rather than conservative,” Associate Professor Ngo Van Minh stated.

Because of its historical formation, Quang Nam province "was born during and through a great national renewal," its people are "very sensitive to new things. They yearn for new things like parched land yearns for rain... They participate in new things, want to know about new things immediately, unravel them, examine them, explore them , and conquer them."

The spirit of innovation and reform of generations of people in Quang Nam province is manifested in many areas: from finding ways to innovate production tools, modernize lifestyles, clothing, and village organization, to innovate economic thinking, especially market-oriented economic thinking with the strong development of foreign trade in Hoi An in the 17th and 18th centuries, and later the dynamism in production and business according to capitalist methods in Da Nang from the early 20th century onwards.

Quang Nam province is proud to be the birthplace of many nationally renowned reformers such as Pham Phu Thu and Nguyen Thuat in the 19th century, the trio of Phan Chau Trinh, Tran Quy Cap, and Huynh Thuc Khang in the early 20th century, and the contributions to the country's renewal made by revolutionaries like Vo Chi Cong and Ho Nghinh in the last three decades of this century.

"Especially in the current context, encouraging, listening to, and absorbing new ideas and bold, groundbreaking approaches; and promoting, motivating, and creating the resources, conditions, and environment to foster dynamism and creativity is becoming increasingly urgent," said Associate Professor Dr. Ngo Van Minh.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hong Son, former Director of the Regional Political Academy III, also stated: "The outstanding feature in the patriotic tradition of Quang Nam province, from the time our ancestors 'went forth to expand the territory' more than 550 years ago to the present day, is always being at the forefront in shouldering the burden of the nation." This tradition includes being at the forefront in expanding the territory (Thoai Ngoc Hau), at the forefront in the democratic revolution (Phan Chau Trinh), at the forefront in the resistance against the French, at the forefront in the resistance against taxes in 1908; at the forefront in the resistance against the Americans; and at the forefront in the New Poetry movement…

During the period of reform, to a certain extent, Quang Nam province has been a pioneer in proposing and implementing new ideas in socio-economic development, which have been supported and approved by the people, and recognized and acknowledged nationwide.

"In the current context of mergers, people from Quang Nam need to demonstrate a keen sense of awareness and a willingness to think outside the box to successfully lead Da Nang into a new era," shared Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hong Son.
