(Quang Ngai Newspaper) - Keeping up with the new development trend, Quang Ngai is promoting green economy , circular economy and sustainable development. Accordingly, industry is developed in a sustainable direction, protecting the environment, adapting to climate change, improving investment quality and efficiency, focusing on attracting high-quality projects.
Attract high quality projects
Quang Ngai has just agreed on a list of priority projects to attract investment in the 2024-2025 period, with 33 projects and 6 groups of fields. The first criterion to be included in this list is that the project must be truly important, necessary, suitable for planning and ensuring environmental conditions. These are a series of logistics projects in seaports, airports, warehouses, transportation; clean agriculture , health and environmental projects. This shows the province's determination to fulfill its commitment not to trade off the environment for economic development.

Recently, Quang Ngai has focused on environmental control for investment projects in the province. Provincial authorities have strengthened supervision of input equipment of projects to ensure compliance with commitments, not allowing the import of old equipment that pollutes the environment. The Department of Science and Technology has directly advised the Provincial People's Committee to direct the Dung Quat Economic Zone Management Board and the provincial industrial parks to work with investors to commit not to bring old, outdated equipment that pollutes the environment into Dung Quat Economic Zone. At the same time, it will not continue to extend previous projects that pollute the environment.

Currently, the Dung Quat Economic Zone Management Board and the provincial industrial parks are focusing on reviewing and submitting to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration not to extend the land lease term in Tinh Phong Industrial Park for industries such as cement production, pozzolan additives, and asphalt concrete mixing stations. These are projects that have been granted investment certificates since Tinh Phong Industrial Park first came into operation. At that time, priority was given to attracting investment for all industries and there was no zoning plan, so the construction location was not suitable in the current industrial development situation.
Strengthening environmental control
The province's orientation in implementing the national strategy on green growth for the period 2011-2020 and vision to 2050 is to attract investment in projects that meet environmental protection requirements. The development of industrial, agricultural and service economies must go hand in hand with reducing carbon emissions, environmental pollution, preventing the decline of biodiversity and ecosystems. In particular, industry develops in the direction of limiting CO2 emissions and toxic chemicals from industrial parks and export processing zones into the environment. At the same time, research and development of new energy sources and new environmentally friendly technical machinery.

To realize this strategy, Quang Ngai has also focused on investing in and operating a centralized wastewater treatment system in economic zones and industrial parks. It strives to ensure that all factories and enterprises are connected to this system before coming into operation, to treat wastewater to standards before discharging it into the environment. Currently, in Dung Quat Economic Zone and the provincial industrial parks, there are wastewater treatment systems in operation, including the Saigon - Dung Quat Industrial Zone Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Quang Phu Industrial Park Centralized Wastewater Treatment Plant, Tinh Phong Industrial Park (invested by the budget) and the VSIP Quang Ngai Industrial Park Wastewater Treatment Plant (invested by the private sector). However, according to the Management Board of Dung Quat Economic Zone and the provincial industrial parks, the current wastewater treatment system does not meet the needs of businesses.
Deputy Head of the Management Board of Dung Quat Economic Zone and Industrial Parks of the province, Dam Minh Le, said that the Board will strengthen monitoring and control of environmental pollution in the economic zone and industrial park. At the same time, he recommended that the province upgrade and renovate the existing wastewater treatment system, invest in additional wastewater treatment plants in areas where there are none, ensuring that they meet the needs of businesses and requirements in attracting investment.
