At the seminar, writers, poets, educators, and representatives from the Vietnam Education Publishing House interacted and engaged in dialogue with readers on several topics related to developing reading culture and building libraries in schools.

Poet Tran Dang Khoa, Vice President of the Vietnam Writers Association, emphasized the role of teachers and library staff in schools as individuals who help students understand the content of books; guiding them in the process of searching for and selecting books for reference, study, and entertainment. Therefore, training and professional development for this team plays a crucial role in promoting a reading culture in schools.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Principal of Trung Vuong Secondary School, Hanoi , shared her views at the seminar.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Dang Diep, Chairman of the Literary Theory Council of the Vietnam Writers Association, believes that reading contributes to nurturing the soul and shaping the character of the younger generation. Therefore, adding a diverse range of books to schools will help stimulate curiosity, encouraging students to choose more books for extracurricular activities.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Principal of Trung Vuong Junior High School in Hanoi, shared: Currently, organizing activities to develop a reading culture and form reading habits for students faces many difficulties due to the influence of various other forms of entertainment (social media, the internet, etc.).

Furthermore, the habit of reading needs to be nurtured within each family; parents and family members must set a good example to instill a daily reading habit in their children. However, in reality, due to busy work schedules and other factors, families have not paid enough attention to cultivating a love of reading in their children.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, the school has paid great attention to fostering a reading culture among students. At Trung Vuong Secondary School, many activities have been organized, such as competitions to introduce favorite books; drawing illustrations of situations in books; drawing characters from books; designing a reading area in the schoolyard in a friendly and welcoming style…

To equip students with good reading skills, the school also focuses on guiding them in choosing books to read. In addition, with the 2018 General Education Program, the use of new materials not found in textbooks in Literature tests encourages students to broaden their reading beyond the content taught in the curriculum.

From observing and talking with students, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha also stated that students often choose multimedia books (with text, images, and audio, with content that is not too long and uses modern language). This is also a suggestion for publishers when compiling and publishing publications for students.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Tung, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Education Publishing House, stated that the issues and solutions raised at the seminar are all of practical significance to schools, parents, students, and publishing units, including Vietnam Education Publishing House. The organizers hope that the opinions expressed at the seminar will contribute to forming reading habits among students, aiming to build a generation of students who are not only knowledgeable but also possess a love and skill for reading.
