Following the success of *The Haunted House* and *The Zombie Swarm *, the horror genre continues to prove its appeal in Vietnamese theaters, with *The Fireman's Mansion* quickly climbing into the top group of weekend box office winners upon its release.
The market next week is expected to be more vibrant with the release of two Vietnamese films , *Mesdames Thanh Sắc* and *Trường hè, 2001* , along with many international works across diverse genres.
Horror films accounted for 77% of weekend box office revenue.
According to box office figures for June 14th, the total market revenue reached approximately 33 billion VND. The top three films alone – *The Ghost* , *The Zombie Swarm *, and * The Fire Lord's Mansion* – grossed over 25.34 billion VND, equivalent to nearly 77% of the total market revenue.
Leading the box office charts is Phan Bá Hỷ's "Ma Xó" (The Ghost) with 10.52 billion VND in weekend revenue, accounting for approximately 31.9% of the box office market share. The film sold 116,732 tickets across 2,778 screenings. After more than a week of release, the Vietnamese horror film has now reached a cumulative revenue of 115.99 billion VND, becoming one of the most successful films of this summer.
Coming in second was the South Korean horror film *Zombie Pack* with 7.89 billion won, equivalent to nearly 23.9% of the total weekend box office revenue. The film sold 77,499 tickets across 2,325 screenings. As of June 14th, the film's cumulative revenue had reached 28.55 billion won.

In third place, the newcomer "Lầu chú Hỏa" (The Fire Tower) attracted attention by raking in 6.93 billion VND, accounting for approximately 21% of the weekend's box office revenue. The film sold 78,007 tickets across 2,389 screenings. After its initial days in theaters, the film has now achieved a cumulative revenue of 27.1 billion VND, demonstrating the considerable appeal of horror films inspired by urban legends.
Notably, all three top-ranking films are either horror or thriller, reflecting the trend of Vietnamese audiences continuing to favor works with a mysterious and spiritual theme during the early summer.
The success of "The Ghost" and "The Fireman's Mansion" further solidifies the dominant position of Vietnamese horror films at the box office. Since the beginning of the year, a series of films exploring spiritual themes, folk legends, and urban anecdotes have consistently achieved high revenues, creating an almost unbeatable winning streak for the genre.
Not only do Vietnamese horror films dominate in terms of revenue, but they also demonstrate the ability to compete directly with foreign blockbusters, becoming the top choice for young audiences every weekend.
The fact that both "The Haunted House" and "The Fireman's Mansion" are in the Top 3 this week shows that the appeal of the horror genre shows no signs of waning, despite the appearance of many animated and family entertainment films currently showing in theaters.
In fourth place, Doraemon Movie 45: Nobita and the Castle Under the Sea grossed 3.16 billion VND over the weekend from 29,973 tickets and 866 screenings. Although unable to compete with horror films, the Japanese animated film still boasts an impressive cumulative revenue of 194.94 billion VND, continuing to be the highest-grossing film of 2026 in Vietnamese theaters to date.
The top 5 concludes with the BTS World Tour 'Arirang' in Busan: Live Viewing concert, which grossed 1.31 billion won from 4,274 tickets sold across 40 screenings.
Two Vietnamese films go head-to-head.
Next week's market will see the release of several new films such as *Mesdames of the Blue* , *Summer School*, *2001* , *Toy Story 5* , and *The White Snake and the Devil: A Human Life *.
In particular, the focus is on the clash between two Vietnamese films with completely different styles.
Mesdames Thanh Sắc is considered one of the most anticipated projects recently, thanks to its large-scale promotional campaign and star-studded cast.
The film revolves around the lives of the beautiful Cam Thanh (Thanh Hang) and Madame Sac (Hong Anh) - the owner of the Kim Do nightclub, one of the wealthiest in Saigon during the 1960s.
From a patronizing relationship, the two women gradually enter into a tense battle of wits and power, leading to shocking events. The setting of glamorous Saigon in the 1960s, along with elements of romance, power, and sensational events, is expected to help the film appeal to adult audiences.
Conversely, Summer School, 2001 takes a more artistic and emotionally rich approach. Set in the Vietnamese community of Cheb (Czech Republic), the film tells the story of Kien, a 17-year-old boy who returns to reunite with his family after 10 years of separation.

The journey of rediscovering roots, confronting the generation gap, and feeling alienated within one's own family gives the film a unique character. With its theme of Vietnamese people living abroad and a nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of the early 2000s, the film is expected to generate good word-of-mouth, although it may struggle to compete in terms of distribution scale with commercial rivals.
Besides the two Vietnamese films, Toy Story 5 is predicted to attract a large audience of families and children this summer. Meanwhile, Ma Lu is likely to continue the popularity of the horror genre – a genre that has dominated the Vietnamese box office for many consecutive weeks. White Snake: A Human Life is also a noteworthy choice for audiences who enjoy animation and Eastern folk tales.
Looking at current trends, the horror genre still holds the biggest advantage. However, the simultaneous release of *Mesdames in the Blue* , * Summer School*, *2001* , and *Toy Story 5* could make the box office race next weekend more unpredictable than in recent weeks.
Most disappointingly, films with limited release dates such as *The Hermit Cinderella *, *Rage* , *Rouge* , * Gintama the Movie 2026: Yoshiwara in the Sea of Fire* , and * The Amazing Digital Circus: The Finale * only grossed between 100 million and 200 million VND per weekend, struggling to make an impact amidst the increasingly fierce competition of the summer movie season.
Of those, "The Hermit Crab " - the group's only Vietnamese work - only earned just over 213 million VND over the weekend, bringing the total revenue to a rather modest level compared to initial expectations.
