Extend the broadcast

It's hard to deny the appeal of Vietnamese films in recent years. Many films with relatable, down-to-earth family themes resonate with viewers of all ages, drawing them to their television screens every hour. However, a common problem with prime-time Vietnamese dramas is their tendency to lose momentum towards the end, despite receiving significant attention in the early episodes.

Most recently, there's the drama "Walking Amidst the Brilliant Sky," starring the duo Thu Ha Ceri (as Pu) and Long Vu (as Chai). In the early stages of the series, the Pu-Chai couple almost became a phenomenon on social media with their adorable and youthful storylines. With a cast of young, "brand new" faces on prime-time television and a youthful, non-tragic theme, "Walking Amidst the Brilliant Sky" is like a breath of fresh air for viewers.

As the series nears its end, with Pu leaving her village to attend university in the city, the scriptwriters increasingly show signs of exhaustion with lengthy and illogical plot points. Throughout many episodes, Pu harbors feelings for Thai (played by Vuong Anh Ole). In the final episodes, she suddenly changes drastically and quickly accepts Chai's feelings, despite previously trying to avoid them. The lack of a significant turning point for the female lead to change leaves many viewers disappointed and feeling that... screenwriter They are forcing Pu and Chai to get together just to quickly end the film.

Not only "Walking Amidst the Brilliant Sky," but before that, films like "Go Home, My Son," "The Taste of Family Love," "Our Family Suddenly Happy," etc., all garnered significant attention thanks to their cast, diverse themes, and generated lively discussions on social media during their broadcast. However, these films all suffered from the "great beginning, weak ending" syndrome, with lengthy and drawn-out plotlines that sparked controversy among viewers and failed to maintain the initial appeal.

Many popular dramas have announced extensions to their episodes, but this has backfired due to lengthy, drawn-out plotlines that are considered unsuitable for the original storyline. For example, the drama "Our Family Suddenly Has Fun," which was praised by viewers for its humorous scenes and talented cast, announced an extension with added plotlines about Tram Anh's (played by Kha Ngan) ex-boyfriend, as well as the plotline of Cong (played by Quang Su) having cancer and divorcing Phuong (played by Kieu Anh). These additions were deemed illogical, unrealistic, and contrary to the original humorous and lighthearted storyline.

The ending became a weakness.

In 2022, the drama "Battle of Wits" aired with the expectation of addressing pressing social issues at the time. Featuring a star-studded cast and a highly sensitive topic, many viewers who persevered to the end were disappointed because the series concluded without resolution.

In the last three episodes, the plot escalates, but the investigation process is criticized for lacking innovation and impactful details. The person who ultimately pays the price is easily predictable, while the mysterious characters and "final boss" mentioned at the beginning of the series disappear without a trace.

For example, the drama "The Taste of Family Love," which was a sensation for a while and received much praise from viewers for its first season, had many plot points in its second season that were considered drawn-out and illogical.

If films avoid excessive detail and know when to stop, they can leave a positive impression on viewers and lay the groundwork for future releases. Films with logical endings that receive praise, such as "Meeting You on a Sunny Day" and "Cheer Up, Guys!", are well-received, and the lingering sense of regret at the end likely creates anticipation for future films starring these actors.
