Following the directives of the Hanoi City Party Committee and the City People's Committee, women's associations at all levels in the capital city organized many activities aimed at the grassroots level to ensure that "every family and every person can celebrate Tet."
According to Nguyen Kim Quy, Vice President of the Hanoi City Women's Union, the City Union has donated 1,490 gift packages along with many essential equipment items with a total value of over 936 million VND.
Notably, the concern is not only extended to disadvantaged members or women with disabilities, but also to female environmental workers and those receiving social welfare benefits. Each gift given carries profound gratitude and immense moral support for those who have contributed to the revolution and for vulnerable women.
The compassion of women is also clearly demonstrated through practical models at the local level. For example, in Thu Lam commune, each gift package delivered directly to the people contains the warm heart of the Women's Union. The Women's Union of the commune has played a core role in mobilizing social resources to provide 140 gift packages worth 65.5 million VND. A noteworthy highlight is the direct participation of the grassroots branches, showing the close connection between the Women's Union and its members right in the residential areas.
In particular, the most significant changes have been the "Houses of Love" and the "Godmother" program. For example, Ms. Truong Thi Phuong (Phu Nghia commune). After more than 20 years of struggling to raise her children in a dilapidated house since her husband's death, her dream of having a stable home came true just in time for Tet (Lunar New Year) 2026. With 50 million VND in support from the Hanoi City Women's Union and the collective efforts of the community, a spacious 70m2 house was completed amidst joyful laughter. Ms. Phuong emotionally shared: "Thanks to the women's group, my children and I were able to have such a warm and stable Tet."
In Bat Bat commune, these noble gestures continued to spread strongly when the Women's Union, in coordination with the Youth Union of the commune and the Women's Association of Suoi Hai Prison, organized the donation of 22 Tet gifts to students and families in difficult circumstances; and visited, presented gifts, and extended Tet greetings to Heroic Vietnamese Mother Le Thi Lua this Tet.
In particular, the "Godmother" program has continued to write heartwarming stories by connecting benefactors to provide financial support for Hoang Thi Hong Ngoc (Dong Phuong village) until she turns 18, as of February 13th. To date, the "Godmother" program in Bat Bat commune has spread love and effectively helped 8 orphaned children in the area.
Another beautiful aspect of this year's charitable activities is the "Zero-Cost Booth" of the Dong Da Ward Women's Union and the "Charitable Ao Dai" of the Trung Gia Commune Women's Union. The donated traditional Ao Dai brought radiant joy to many disadvantaged women. Ms. Nguyen Thi Ly (Dong Da Ward), who received an Ao Dai from the zero-cost booth, happily shared: "This Ao Dai is not only a material gift but also a source of spiritual encouragement, helping us women feel cared for and appreciated during Tet (Lunar New Year)."
According to the report, grassroots women's associations organized and coordinated activities to visit, extend New Year greetings, and present gifts to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, families of policy beneficiaries, women in difficult circumstances, victims of Agent Orange, disabled women, women suffering from serious illnesses, youth volunteers, women of ethnic minorities, students in difficult circumstances, and orphans, with 9,772 gifts worth 4.14 billion VND.
The total number of gifts distributed by all levels of the Association, from the city to the grassroots, during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Horse 2026 was 11,262, with a total value of over 5 billion VND.
Beautifying the streets to welcome the Spring
Alongside their social welfare activities, women in Hanoi are also a pioneering force in building a civilized urban lifestyle and beautifying the city's appearance to welcome the New Year and important political events.
During the Lunar New Year of 2026 (Year of the Horse), over 30,000 women's association members in Hanoi simultaneously participated in the "Green Weekend" campaign. Beyond simply cleaning up, local women's associations also took on the responsibility of decorating streets with flowers and creating model murals, contributing to changing public awareness about environmental protection and beautifying the urban landscape. In key areas such as Phuong Liet and Ngoc Ha wards, local branches worked tirelessly, dividing into groups to decisively address waste-related bottlenecks.
Specifically, the Women's Union of Phuong Liet ward mobilized 54 branches to conduct a general cleanup of main roads, public areas, and cultural centers, while also planting many new flowerbeds and ornamental plants. Similarly, in Ngoc Ha ward, union officials and members closely coordinated with working groups to clean each alley, street, and residential area. These practical actions not only ensure a "Bright - Green - Clean - Beautiful" appearance for the capital but also create a joyful and radiant atmosphere for people to welcome the Lunar New Year.
Most innovative is the model in Hong Van commune, where the general sanitation movement is linked to collecting scrap materials to raise funds for social welfare. The Hong Van Commune Women's Union directed 100% of its branches throughout the commune to proactively participate in general environmental sanitation campaigns in villages, alleys, and public places from February 7th to 15th. Pham Thi Ly Na, Vice Chairman of the Fatherland Front and Chairwoman of the Hong Van Commune Women's Union, said: "During the campaign, the branches and groups of the Women's Union linked the movement to collecting scrap materials to raise funds for social welfare, in order to give gifts to disadvantaged women and children during the 2026 Lunar New Year."
Tet is approaching, bringing with it hopes for a peaceful new year. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the season, the heartwarming actions of the women's associations at all levels in Hanoi are like fragrant spring flowers. These women are the bridge connecting joyful shores, helping every family and every person feel the sharing and welcome a peaceful and happy spring.
