Pickleball helps improve happiness levels.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - According to a new study from Saint Louis University (USA), published in the journal Frontiers in Sports Science, people who play pickleball three times a week have better mental health indicators.

"If you've ever left the pickleball court with a big smile and feeling relaxed, that's not just a subjective feeling. Those feelings are now scientifically proven, and they not only offer physical benefits but are particularly effective in improving mental health," writes Frontiers in Sports Science.

A large-scale study has just been conducted to provide concrete scientific evidence on the link between pickleball and mental health. Researchers surveyed more than 1,600 players across the United States, aged 18 to 89 (with a primary focus on the average age of 63).

This study went beyond mere subjective responses. To ensure accuracy, participants completed the WHO-5 mental health index, a legally recognized global standard for measuring mental health.

The results indicate that players who take to the court three or more times per week score significantly higher on mental health tests than those who only play once or twice.

At the same time, the duration of each playing session also plays a crucial role; playing for longer than two hours at a time is directly correlated with significantly higher happiness scores, reinforcing the recommendation to dedicate more time to this sport .

"Playing pickleball more frequently and for longer periods of time significantly improves mental well-being, even when accounting for key variables such as injury history, age, gender, and participation in other sports."

Just like in medicine, the more medication you use over a longer period, the more noticeable the effects become. In this study, the main medication is the "pickleball," and the effect is that you feel happier, calmer, and more fulfilled," the study states.
