Pickleball helps increase happiness index

(Dan Tri) - According to new research from Saint Louis University (USA) published in the journal Frontiers in Sports Science, people who play pickleball 3 times a week have better mental health index.

“If you’ve ever left a pickleball court with a big smile on your face and a feeling of well-being, that’s not just subjective. Those feelings have now been scientifically proven to have not only physical benefits, but also significant mental health benefits,” writes Frontiers in Sports Science.

A large-scale study has just been conducted to provide concrete scientific evidence on the link between pickleball and mental health. Researchers surveyed more than 1,600 players across the United States, ranging in age from 18 to 89 (with a median age of 63).

The study went beyond subjective responses. To ensure accuracy, study participants completed the WHO-5 Mental Health Index, a legitimate global standard for measuring mental health.

Results showed that players who played three or more times per week had significantly higher mental health scores than those who played only once or twice.

At the same time, the duration of each playing session also plays an important role, playing longer than two hours at a time is directly correlated with significantly higher happiness scores, reinforcing the recommendation to spend more time on the sport .

“Playing pickleball more frequently and for longer periods of time significantly improved mental well-being, even when accounting for key variables such as injury history, age, gender, and level of participation in other sports.

“As in medicine, the more a drug is taken over a longer period of time, the more noticeable its effects become. In this study, the drug was the pickleball and the effects were when you felt happier, calmer and more fulfilled,” the study stated.
