Ousmane Dembele's serious hamstring injury has angered PSG manager Didier Deschamps. |
Coach Didier Deschamps' decision to field Dembele was highly controversial, as the French striker had been feeling unwell beforehand. According to ESPN , PSG were upset with Deschamps' risky decision, which directly affected the Parisian club.
Some members of the PSG board even harshly criticized the French national team coach, considering Deschamps' decision illogical and potentially ruining the Ligue 1 team's season. Dembele suffered an injury during the 2026 World Cup qualifying match between France and Ukraine on September 6th.
PSG's official website later announced that Dembele would be sidelined for six weeks due to a calf injury. PSG's management warned the French national team that Dembele had a pre-existing problem in the Ligue 1 match against Toulouse, but coach Deschamps still fielded the star player.
Afterwards, coach Deschamps had to speak out to defend his decision. “I was certain that Dembele was fit to play initially, otherwise I wouldn’t have used him. This time, Dembele had a different injury (compared to the one against Toulouse). Before the match, he was perfectly healthy.”
"It's a shame for Dembele, but this could happen to any other player. I decided to let him play because there were no medical issues," added coach Deschamps.
