Quang Ninh now has its 5th city.

The Standing Committee of the National Assembly has just approved a Resolution on the reorganization of commune-level administrative units in Quang Ninh province and the establishment of Dong Trieu city under the direct administration of Quang Ninh province. Thus, Quang Ninh province now has the most cities in the country, including: Ha Long, Uong Bi, Cam Pha, Mong Cai, and Dong Trieu.

Nearly 12,000 loan customers were affected by Typhoon Yagi in Hai Phong and Quang Ninh.

According to the September 28th Decision of the National Assembly Standing Committee, Dong Trieu City was established on the basis of Dong Trieu town with an area of ​​395.950 km2 and a population of 249,000. The National Assembly Standing Committee also approved a Resolution on the rearrangement of commune-level administrative units in Quang Ninh province, which included merging Tan Viet commune into Viet Dan commune and merging Dong Trieu ward into Duc Chinh ward of Dong Trieu town. The following wards were established: Binh Duong, Thuy An, Binh Khe, and Yen Duc.

The city of Dong Trieu was established with 19 subordinate administrative units at the commune level, including 13 wards: Duc Chinh, Hung Dao, Xuan Son, Kim Son, Mao Khe, Hong Phong, Trang An, Yen Tho, Hoang Que, Binh Duong, Thuy An, Binh Khe, Yen Duc and 6 communes: Nguyen Hue, Viet Dan, An Sinh, Trang Luong, Hong Thai Dong, Hong Thai Tay.

Administratively, Dong Trieu city is bordered to the east by Uong Bi city; to the west by Chi Linh city in Hai Duong province; to the south by Kinh Mon town in Hai Duong province and Thuy Nguyen district in Hai Phong city; and to the north by Son Dong and Luc Nam districts in Bac Giang province.

During the period 2021-2023, Dong Trieu's average economic growth rate reached 14%. Per capita income in 2023 reached over 163 million VND, 1.6 times higher than the national average.

With Dong Trieu officially recognized as a city, Quang Ninh province now has the most cities in the country, including Ha Long, Uong Bi, Cam Pha, Mong Cai, and Dong Trieu. In addition, Quang Ninh is also implementing procedures and preparing documents to propose the establishment of Quang Yen city in 2025. By 2030, Quang Ninh aims to become a centrally-governed city under its own model.

Dong Trieu town was established in 2015 and recognized as a type III urban area in 2020. Located at the western gateway connecting Quang Ninh with Hanoi and the northern provinces, Dong Trieu enjoys many advantages in trade and economic development with localities in the region, nationwide, and internationally. It is expected to become a new growth pole in the western part of Quang Ninh province.
