According to information from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, after more than 2 months since the outbreak of African swine fever (ASF), the disease has now been controlled throughout the province.

Mr. Dao Van An, Deputy Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Tri province, said: “After more than 2 months of implementing the work of preventing and controlling ASF, by January 22, ASF in the province has been controlled. Localities and households need to continue to comply with the province's directives and instructions on ASF prevention and control; organize propaganda to raise awareness among pig farmers, apply biosafety measures, re-herding must be declared and follow the instructions of specialized agencies.”

Quang Tri has controlled African swine fever.

African swine fever re-emerged in Quang Tri at the end of October 2023 in pig herds of 2 households in Nhu Le village, Hai Le commune, Quang Tri town and Dong Tam 1 village, Trieu Tai commune, Trieu Phong district, then spread to many localities in the province. After the outbreak, localities have drastically and synchronously implemented measures to isolate and suppress the epidemic according to regulations. During this outbreak, the whole province had 344 households raising livestock in 78 villages of 28 communes, wards and towns in 7 districts, towns and cities with ASF, including 18 communes and towns in Trieu Phong; 3 communes in Dakrong; 1 commune in Huong Hoa; 2 communes in Cam Lo; 2 communes in Gio Linh; 1 ward in Dong Ha city and 1 commune in Quang Tri town. The total number of sick and dead pigs that had to be buried was 2,222, with a total destroyed weight of 102,997 kg.
