According to information from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, more than two months after the resurgence of African Swine Fever (ASF), the disease has now been brought under control throughout the province.
Mr. Dao Van An, Deputy Head of the Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Tri province, said: “After more than two months of implementing African Swine Fever (ASF) prevention and control measures, by January 22nd, ASF in the province has been brought under control. Local authorities and livestock farmers need to continue to comply with the province's directives and guidelines on ASF prevention and control; organize propaganda to raise awareness among pig farmers, apply biosecurity measures in livestock farming, and report restocking according to the guidance of specialized agencies.”

African Swine Fever (ASF) re-emerged in Quang Tri province at the end of October 2023, affecting pig herds of two households in Nhu Le village, Hai Le commune, Quang Tri town, and Dong Tam 1 village, Trieu Tai commune, Trieu Phong district. The outbreak subsequently spread to many other localities in the province. Following the outbreak, local authorities implemented decisive and coordinated measures to contain and eradicate the disease according to regulations. During this outbreak, 344 households in 78 villages across 28 communes, wards, and towns in 7 districts, towns, and cities were affected by ASF, including 18 communes/towns in Trieu Phong district; 3 communes in Dakrong district; 1 commune in Huong Hoa district; 2 communes in Cam Lo district; 2 communes in Gio Linh district; 1 ward in Dong Ha city; and 1 commune in Quang Tri town. A total of 2,222 pigs were infected and subsequently buried, with a total weight of 102,997 kg.
