Quy Nhon Binh Dinh FC will participate in the 2025-2026 First Division League under the new name Quy Nhon United FC after the team's name change proposal was approved by the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee.
Notably, this marks the fourth name change for the Binh Dinh team in nearly five years. Specifically, after winning the 2020 First Division title under the name Binh Dinh Club, the team changed its name to Topenland Binh Dinh to compete in the V-League 2021.
Having been under its new name for almost three years, the team changed its name again to Merryland Quy Nhon Binh Dinh Club and competed in the V-League 2023-2024. This was also the season in which they unexpectedly achieved a historic runner-up position after Nam Dinh Club.
But in the 2024-2025 V-League season, the team changed its name to Quy Nhon Binh Dinh Club and then got relegated. And now, the team has changed its name again to Quy Nhon United - a name that sounds half Western, half Vietnamese, and not many professional Vietnamese clubs would choose it as their team name.

Quy Nhon United FC resumed training on August 1st. After restructuring their squad to suit current finances, the team only has about a dozen players who participated in the 2024-2025 V-League season. Therefore, Quy Nhon United FC received support from Hoang Anh Gia Lai FC, including head coach Trinh Duy Quang and 16 young players, to ensure they have enough players to compete.
"As a son of the martial arts land, when I return to my hometown, I will do my best with the team."
"I will try to shape a playing style for the team that has its own identity and appeals to the fans," coach Trinh Duy Quang shared.
Thus, the newly merged Gia Lai province will have two representatives in professional football: Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club in the V-League and Quy Nhon United Club in the First Division.
However, both teams face considerable difficulties in the new 2025-2026 season due to limited squads and a large number of young players.
It's rare for a Vietnamese football team to have the name United attached to it.
Previously, only one Vietnamese club had a name that included the word "United": the VST (Van Sy Thuy) youth academy.
The team changed its name to Hai An United when it participated in the 2008 Second Division and again changed its name to Saigon United after winning the right to play in the 2009 First Division. After that, the team disbanded.
