Quy Nhon Binh Dinh Club will participate in the 2025-2026 First Division with the new name Quy Nhon United Club after the team's name change proposal was approved by the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee.
Notably, this is the fourth name change of the team in nearly 5 years. Specifically, after winning the 2020 First Division Championship under the name Binh Dinh Club, the team changed its name to Topenland Binh Dinh to compete in the 2021 V-League.
After nearly 3 years of being renamed, the team changed its name to Merryland Quy Nhon Binh Dinh Club to compete in the V-League 2023-2024. This is also the season they unexpectedly won the historic runner-up position after Nam Dinh Club.
But in V-League 2024-2025, the team changed its name to Quy Nhon Binh Dinh Club and then relegated. And now, the team has changed its name to Quy Nhon United - a name that sounds half Western and half Vietnamese and not many professional Vietnamese clubs choose as their team name.

Quy Nhon United Club has returned to training since August 1. After restructuring the team to suit the current financial situation, the team only has about a dozen players who participated in the 2024-2025 V-League. Therefore, Quy Nhon United Club is supported by head coach Trinh Duy Quang and 16 young players from Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club to have enough players to compete.
"I myself am a son of the land of martial arts, so when I return to my homeland, I will try my best with the team.
I will try to shape the team's playing style to have its own identity and attract fans," Coach Trinh Duy Quang shared.
Thus, the new Gia Lai province after the merger will have 2 representatives in the professional playground: Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club in V-League and Quy Nhon United Club in the First Division.
However, both teams face many difficulties in the new 2025-2026 season due to limited forces and many young players.
Rarely is there a Vietnamese football team with the name United attached.
Previously, there was only one Vietnamese club with the word United in its name, the VST youth training center (Van Sy Thuy).
The team changed its name to Hai An United when participating in the 2008 Second Division and continued to change its name to Saigon United after winning the right to play in the 2009 First Division. After that, the team disbanded.
