According to assessments by relevant authorities, although the market situation in the province has generally been stable recently, the transportation and trading of smuggled food products of unknown origin, especially those in high demand such as sausages, beef meatballs, squid patties, confectionery, animal organs, and functional foods, remains a complex issue.
Since the beginning of the year, the Border Guard Force has detected and arrested 38 cases involving 41 individuals violating the law, seizing tens of thousands of poultry, tons of meat, eggs, and animal offal of unknown origin. For example, on April 27th, in the border area of Mong Cai City, the Anti-Drug and Crime Prevention Department (of the Provincial Border Guard) coordinated with the Bac Son Border Guard Post to apprehend an individual using a pickup truck to transport 355 kg of food of unknown origin, including frozen lobster, grouper, sea bass, scallops, and lamb sausage. The driver confessed to transporting the goods from the border area to the interior for a fee.
For example, in response to the 2025 Food Safety Action Month, from April 22nd to 26th, Team No. 1 of the Market Management Department (Provincial Market Management Sub-department) coordinated with relevant functional forces to inspect and detect 4 violations involving a total of 6,078 smuggled food products of unknown origin, worth nearly 378 million VND. Specifically, on April 26th, at the SK Ky Bao Ha Long store (Ha Khau ward, Ha Long city), Team No. 1 discovered 255 functional food and dried herbal products of unknown origin, with a total value of nearly 284 million VND. During questioning by authorities, the owner admitted to purchasing and collecting goods from the black market without invoices or documents for resale to make a profit.
To effectively prevent the trading, transportation, and sale of smuggled food and food of unknown origin, in the coming period, market management forces will continue to inspect and control the origin of food circulating in the market; focusing on monitoring the activities of units supplying raw materials to food processing facilities, schools, restaurants, etc.
