Going to the fields in early spring - hoping for a bountiful harvest.

From early morning in the first days of spring, farmers in Ninh Hai commune have been bustling in the fields, tending to their rice crops for the 2025-2026 winter-spring season. On each plot, people are busy checking water levels, fertilizing, and controlling pests and diseases. According to the production plan, this year's winter-spring crop in Ninh Hai commune will cover nearly 841.7 hectares of rice, 142 hectares of corn, 123 hectares of various vegetables and legumes, and 60 hectares of fodder grass. Thanks to planting on schedule, the crops are growing quite well, creating a sense of excitement among the people.

Alongside agricultural production, in coastal salt-producing areas, salt farmers are also busy preparing for the new season. On the barren fields, people are urgently clearing the land, reinforcing the embankments, and channeling water into the fields, preparing for the first batches of salt. According to reports, as of February 2026, Ninh Hai commune had 1,145 hectares of salt production. Of this, 480 hectares were for artisanal salt production with 494 households, and 665 hectares for industrial salt production. The salt harvest for the month reached 23,020 tons, including 13,500 tons of industrial salt and 9,520 tons of artisanal salt. Approximately 890 people in the commune are involved in salt production.

Having been involved in salt production for many years, Mr. Bui Hoa (Khanh Tuong village, Ninh Hai commune) said that his family owns about 4 acres of salt fields, with an average annual production of over 1,200 tons. The first days of the new year are very important as they mark the beginning of the entire production season. Taking advantage of favorable weather, people go to the fields early to make salt, hoping for a year of good sunshine, a bountiful harvest, and good prices.

According to salt farmers, going to the fields at the beginning of the year not only signifies production but is also a familiar tradition of the profession, reflecting their hope for a successful salt harvest.

Fishermen from Ca Na head out to sea at the beginning of spring.

The atmosphere of early spring production is also bustling in the coastal area of Ca Na commune. From dawn, on the boats at Ca Na port, people are busy preparing fishing gear such as ice, fuel, machinery, anchors, and nets to set sail. According to the beliefs of the local fishermen, a successful first fishing trip of the year will bring good luck and smooth sailing for the whole year, so the preparations are meticulously taken care of by the boats. According to many experienced fishermen, after Tet (Lunar New Year), favorable weather is the time when the sea is full of schools of shrimp and fish. Moreover, in the first days of the year, fish and seafood are usually in high demand and prices are higher than usual, so many fishermen set sail very early to serve consumer needs.

According to statistics, the entire commune currently has 660 fishing vessels with a length of 6 meters or more, employing 5,009 workers, mainly engaged in longline fishing, purse seine fishing, trawling, and fishing logistics services. This is an important force contributing to the development of the local marine economy . Mr. Nguyen Thanh Long, captain of the NT 90280 vessel in Ca Na commune, said: “Before the Lunar New Year holiday, I and the crew members maintained the machinery and equipment to prepare for the first fishing trip of the year. We hope that this year the weather will be calm and the sea will be peaceful so that the lives of the people in the coastal area will be more prosperous and comfortable. The first fishing trip of the year is very important; if it goes well, the people will have more motivation to stay at sea for longer periods. Everyone hopes that this year the weather will be good and there will be plenty of fish and shrimp so that every trip will bring back a full hold.”

From rice paddies and salt fields to offshore fishing grounds, the spirit of early spring labor is spreading strongly. The initiative and diligence of farmers, salt producers, and fishermen not only mark the beginning of a new production season but also convey hope for a year of favorable weather, safe production, and increasingly prosperous lives.
